The New York Yankees won’t have All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez for at least a few weeks.

Sanchez was put on the 10-day disabled list Monday because of a strained right groin. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before New York’s game at Philadelphia that Sanchez is expected to miss up to four weeks with a Grade 1 strain.

Austine Romine replaced Sanchez in the starting lineup.

The Yankees also optioned outfielder Clint Frazier to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and recalled catcher Kyle Higashioka and right-hander Giovanny Gallegos from the minors.

Sanchez was hurt Sunday while running out a double-play grounder at Tampa Bay.

”Gary Sanchez out of your lineup Nick O'Leary Jersey , that’s a big deal,” Boone said. ”But we’ll take the positive out of it. Ro has done a great job obviously this year for us. It’s an opportunity for Higashioka to get up here and hopefully everyone can pick up the slack a little bit in his absence, but we feel like will be OK offensively.”

The 25-year-old Sanchez is hitting .190 with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs, a season after he made the AL All-Star team while batting .278 with 33 homers and 90 RBIs.

Frazier hit .350 in eight games after recently being promoted from the minors. The Yankees have the best record in the majors at 50-25.

Antonio Senzatela’s most important pitch came early.

Senzatela worked out of a first-inning jam en route to throwing seven scoreless innings in his first start of the season, Nolan Arenado hit his National League-leading 22nd home run and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Francisco Giants 8-1 on Tuesday night.

Colorado’s Charlie Blackmon had three hits, including his first homer since June 20. Trevor Story had an RBI triple for the Rockies, who have won five of their last six games.

D.J. LeMahieu added a run-scoring double for Colorado, which has beaten the Giants in 14 of the past 16 games at Coors Field dating to Sept. 7, 2016.

Senzatela, recalled earlier in the day from Triple-A Albuquerque, struck out four and walked none while limiting the Giants to three hits but two of them came in the first inning. He got out of the two-on, two-out jam by retiring Pablo Sandoval http://www.officialoilers.com/authentic-adidas-connor-mcdavid-jersey , getting him to pop-out on a 2-0 changeup.

”To get out of that inning with a zero, stranding those runners, was huge,” Senzatela said through a translator. ”I settled down pretty nicely and I’m glad I gave the team a chance to win.”

Arenado said Senzatela’s ability to work out of first inning trouble helped set the tone for the rest of the game.

”Getting out of that first inning with no runs was huge,” Arenado said. ”I feel like sometimes we always give up a run in the first and lately they haven’t. He was just great, pounding the zone, throwing strikes getting ahead of guys. It was awesome. Our pitching in general lately has been huge for us and I think that’s why lately we have been playing better.”

Senzatela started in the spot vacated by struggling Jon Gray, who started for the Rockies in their season opener but was optioned to Albuquerque last weekend.

Senzatela (3-1) made the team out of spring training and began the season in the Rockies’ bullpen before being optioned on May 2 to Albuquerque, where he went 3-1 with a 2.15 ERA in eight starts prior to his recall. As a rookie last season, Senzatela had most of his success as a starter, going 10-5 with a 5.03 ERA in 20 starts.

Chris Stratton (8-6) went 5 2/3 innings and allowed eight runs on 11 hits, including Blackmon’s solo shot in the first inning as well as Arenado’s three-run drive.

”His fastball command wasn’t real sharp tonight Mikael Granlund Jersey ,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. ”Fastballs missed their spots there. That’s usually his forte, he commands it so well. He threw some good fastballs to Arenado and the changeup stayed in the middle. He wasn’t real sharp with his command. He threw strikes but he needed to work the edges.”

The Giants broke through for a run on Alec Hanson’s RBI single in the eighth off reliever MikeDunn.

The Giants were trailing 3-0 when Arenado broke the game open in the fifth with a three-run homer. Stratton walked LeMahieu to start the inning and Blackmon singled before Arenado drove a 3-2 offering over the left-center field wall.

GIANTS NEMESIS

Arenado has driven in 90 runs in 100 career games against the Giants, the second most among active players. Matt Kemp leads with 93 career RBIs against the Giants. Said Arenado: ”I think they bring out the best in all of us. They bring out the best in me – three World Series rings and they’ve always been one of the top tier teams in our division. It’s always a tough place to play and I always want to beat them because I always feel like they’ve beaten us in the past, a lot.”

TRAINER’S ROOM

Giants: The team’s starting rotation is nearing full strength again. Manager Bruce Bochy said that RHP Johnny Cueto is slated to be reinstated from the 60-day disabled list on Thursday, when he’s scheduled to start against the St. Louis Cardinals. Cueto was placed on the DL, retroactive to April 29, because of a right elbow sprain. RHP Jeff Samardzija is slated to start Saturday’s game against St. Louis after being reinstated from the 10-day DL. Samardzija went on the DL after leaving a May 30 start against Colorado following one inning due to tightness in his pitching shoulder.

Rockies: RHP Chad Bettis has gone on the 10-day disabled list with a blister on his right middle finger. Bettis left his last start on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers after three innings because of the finger injury. Senzatela was recalled from Albuquerque to fill Bettis’ roster spot and started Tuesday against the Giants in the place of RHP Jon Gray, who was optioned Saturday to Albuquerque.

UP NEXT

Giants: LHP Andrew Suarez (3-4, 4.18 ERA) is coming off a strong outing in which he allowed one run on seven hits over six innings in a 2-1 win against Arizona.

Rockies: LHP Tyler Anderson (5-3, 4.23 ERA) has gone 1-3 with a 5.26 ERA in eight previous starts at Coors Field this season.

The Seattle Mariners have made a habit this year of mounting comebacks Youth Mikko Koivu Jersey , winning by one run and prevailing in extra innings.

They combined all three of those traits in a rousing, drama-filled matchup with the Baltimore Orioles.

Denard Span hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the 11th inning after Kyle Seager delivered a two-run homer in the ninth, and the Mariners pulled out an 8-7 victory Wednesday night.

Playing without injured Nelson Cruz for a second straight game, Seattle got a home run from Ryon Healy and collected 14 hits while improving its record in extra innings to 7-0.

It was the Mariners’ major league-leading 25th one-run victory, and it marked the 16th comeback win in which they have taken the lead in the seventh inning or later.

In this one, Seattle gave up a deflating three-run homer to Chris Davis in the eighth inning before rallying.

”We’ve had some great wins this year. We’ve done a lot of this at home,” manager Scott Servais said. ”To do this on the road, after giving up the big home run in the eighth inning, it’s how we’re wired. We play all 27 outs, guys don’t quit. They figure out and find a way.”

The Mariners came to town having lost six of seven. Now, after winning three straight over the lowly Orioles, they can complete the first four-game road sweep of Baltimore in franchise history.

Seattle has never swept a two-game series in Baltimore, and its last three-game sweep of the Orioles on the road was in 2007.

Cruz has been bothered by a sore lower back, but the Mariners have done just fine without him.

Jean Segura led off the 11th with a double against Mychal Givens (0-5), and Span drove in the go-ahead run with a deep fly to center off Donnie Hart.

Chasen Bradford (5-0) worked the 10th and Edwin Diaz got three outs for his major league-leading 30th save, a club record before the All-Star break. He has earned the save in each game of this series.

”We have stepped up and started playing great baseball,” Diaz said. ”Our defense, hitting and pitching are all doing great. We’re in a good moment right now.”

The Orioles trailed 5-4 in the eighth inning before Davis interrupted his season-long slump with a shot off Alex Colome. The drive, on a 3-1 pitch Ryan Suter Jersey , soared onto Eutaw Street far beyond the right-field wall.

Davis entered the game with a .147 batting average, and on Friday returned from an eight-game hiatus in which he worked to get his swing back. This was his second home run since coming back, and it produced a rare feel-good moment for a struggling team and its belabored slugger.

Then, in the Seattle ninth, Mitch Haniger singled off Zach Britton and Seager delivered his 15th home run and second in two nights.

Britton, who has pitched in only eight games this season after returning from surgery on a torn Achilles tendon, said, ”I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I didn’t want it to be like this, but it is what it is and I’ve just got to push through it.”

Much earlier, Seattle made up deficits of 2-0 and 4-2 to take a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning against Alex Cobb.

Baltimore has lost four in a row overall and 14 of 15 at home.

DO THE HUSTLE

Orioles shortstop Manny Machado heard some boos Tuesday night when he trotted to first base after hitting into a 4-6-3 double play.

Manager Buck Showalter promised the matter would be addressed, and he did so on Wednesday.

”He’s better than that,” Showalter said. ”It’s a really bad presentation, and he knows that. The toughest thing about it is that it’s a poor presentation of what he’s really about.”

ALL-STAR ENDORSEMENT

Machado leads AL shortstops in fan voting for the All-Star Game, but Servais believes Jean Segura is playing well enough to be a backup.

”There are a lot of good shortstops out there, but our guy ranks top five in almost every statistical category,” Servais insisted.

Segura is batting .338 with 44 RBIs. He’s got nine errors but has displayed exceptional range.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Mariners: Servais says Cruz ”is moving in the right direction” and could return Thursday.

Orioles: RHP Darren O’Day (hamstring) and OF Craig Gentry (rib fracture) were placed on the 10-day disabled list.

UP NEXT

Mariners: Mike Leake (8-4, 4.11 ERA) gets his 17th start in the series finale.

Orioles: Recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Jimmy Yacabonis will make his first major league start Thursday in place of injured Dylan Bundy.

Kobe Bryant is a winner in retirement, too.

The former Los Angeles Lakers star won an Oscar in the animated short category for ”Dear Basketball Tyler Ennis Jersey ,” a poem he wrote after ending his 20-year career on the court in 2016.

He’ll add it to an already jammed trophy collection that includes five NBA championships with the Lakers, two Olympic gold medals, NBA Finals most valuable player awards, a league MVP award and four All-Star game MVP awards.

Backstage, Bryant looked lovingly at the statue cradled in his hands and mouthed, ”My God.”

”I feel better than winning championships,” he said, a smile never leaving his face. ”This is crazy, man, it’s crazy.”

As executive producer of the six-minute film, Bryant accepted his golden Oscar statue from ”Star Wars” star Mark Hamill on Sunday night. He shared the award with Disney animator Glen Keane.

PRO FOOTBALL

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Shaquem Griffin did 20 reps on the bench press with a prosthetic left hand in what was by far the best feel-good story of the NFL combine.

”My goal was six,” acknowledged Griffin, who almost doubled his previous high of 11 reps and surpassed the 17 his twin brother, Shaquille, managed at last year’s combine before the Seattle Seahawks selected the speedy cornerback in the third round.

Griffin is expected to be a mid-rounder like his brother.

”This is a legitimate football player,” NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said. ”He’s an energy giver.”

One who, conversely, fed off the hoots and hollers during his bench press.

”Everybody in the stands was hyping me up. I got the guys I’m here with hyping me up. It felt amazing,” Griffin said.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Police were searching for suspended Oakland Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith patrick mahomes authentic jersey , who authorities said Sunday is suspected of domestic violence.

Someone called 911 to report a domestic violence incident at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, a San Francisco police spokesman said. He added Smith fled the San Francisco home before officers arrived.

Sgt. Michael Andraychak said the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening. Andraychak said investigators are asking for the public’s help finding him.

The troubled linebacker has been arrested several times on charges of drunken driving, vandalism and illegal possession of assault rifles among other charges since the San Francisco 49ers drafted him in 2011 in the first round. The 49ers released him 2015 after he was arrested and charged with his third drunken driving in four years.

The Raiders signed him in 2015 and he played nine games for them until the NFL suspended him for substance abuse violations. The 28-year-old’s application to the NFL commissioner for reinstatement was initially denied in 2016 and is still pending.

DOPING

LONDON (AP) – A report published by British legislators has accused IAAF President Sebastian Coe of misleading a parliamentary inquiry into doping.

The digital, culture, media and sports committee’s report was critical of Coe’s responses to questions regarding how much he knew about doping within track and field before the problems were revealed by investigative journalists and whistle-blowers.

The committee suggested Coe could have acted sooner to clean up the sport while he served as vice president of the international track and field federation until 2015, when he won an election to succeed Lamine Diack as president.

Coe appeared before the committee in December 2015.

LONDON (AP) – Bradley Wiggins used a banned powerful corticosteroid to enhance his performance while preparing to win the Tour de France in 2012, a British parliamentary committee said in a doping investigation report that accuses Team Sky of crossing an ”ethical line” after preaching zero tolerance.

The legislators said they received evidence that shows Team Sky sought a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) for Wiggins to take triamcinolone ”not to treat medical need” – asthma – ”but to improve his power to weight ratio.”

In a statement, Wiggins denied ”any drug was used without medical need.” Team Sky defended its reputation in a statement criticizing ”the anonymous and potentially malicious claim” by members of parliament.

But the report from a committee established in 2015 to investigate doping casts doubt on the team’s use of medication and failure to keep accurate medical records.

TRACK AND FIELD

LONDON (AP) – Roger Bannister, the first runner to break the 4-minute barrier in the mile, has died. He was 88.

Bannister’s family said in a statement that he died peacefully on Saturday in Oxford.

On a windy late afternoon in Oxford on May 6, 1954, Bannister ran four laps on a cinder track in 3 minutes, 59.4 seconds to crack the mythical 4-minute mile – a feat many had thought humanly impossible.

A few months later in 1954, Bannister beat Australian rival John Landy in the ”Miracle Mile” or ”Mile of the Century” at the Empire Games in Vancouver, British Columbia as both men ran under 4 minutes.

Bannister then gave up running to pursue a long and distinguished medical career.

Before the 2018 NFL schedule was released

#122 liny195 » 26.01.2019, 05:55

Youth Weston Richburg Jersey , I remember fans anticipating a prime-time showdown between the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers. Oakland was coming off of a disappointing season, but hired Jon Gruden and the arrow was pointing up. Across the Bay, the 49ers found a franchise quarterback and strung together five wins to close out last season, building intrigue for 2018.Many thought that the Raiders and 49ers would wind up on opening weekend, but instead the league pushed them back to a Week 9 Thursday Night Football slot. Well, eight weeks into the season and the only similarity between the two teams is the one in the win column. So how did we get from “one of the best games in the schedule” to “a battle for the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft?”The Raiders’ summer was as choppy as the Pacific Ocean, filled with linebacker Khalil Mack trade rumors and odd veteran signings. On the flip side, the 49ers’ biggest storylines were Reuben Foster’s legal issues and Jimmy Garoppolo’s rendezvous with a female friend. Yet, before the season even began, San Francisco lost their starting running back Jerick McKinnon for the season and Oakland pulled off a blockbuster deal, sending Mack to Chicago for multiple draft picks. With a healthy Derek Carr and co., the Raiders are sitting at 1-6. However, in Santa Clara, a healthy Jimmy Garoppolo had led the 49ers to a 1-1 record before getting hurt late in the fourth quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs. With backup C.J. Beathard under center, San Francisco has lost five straight games in maddening fashion. The 49ers’ scoring offense is ranked 23rd in the NFL, while the Raiders’ scoring offense is further down the list at 27th. On the other side of the ball, San Francisco’s scoring defense is ranked 28th, while Raiders trail three spots behind. To this point in the season, Oakland’s dysfunction has been rather inexplicable. They’ve been healthy at major positions and revamped their coaching staff, yet continue to struggle on both sides of the ball. Against the Rams, Chargers and Seahawks, the Raiders only managed to put up 13, 10 and three points Cheap Fred Warner Jersey , respectively. Their only win on the season is a three-point OT victory against a Cleveland Browns’ team led by rookie Baker Mayfield in his first start. On the other hand, the 49ers’ issues have been more explicable, as it’s mostly self-inflicted. Kyle Shanahan’s offense has 18 turnovers on the season, ranking 29th in the NFL. Careless giveaways have been the difference in most of their games. Outside of a blowout loss at the hands of the Rams, the 49ers have lost every other game this season by less than 11 points.Oakland had high expectations coming into the season, but instead they’ve regressed, trading two of their three best players for multiple first-round picks. It’s setting up for a full rebuild in Oakland, with Gruden planning on using the first part of his 10-year contract to construct the roster per his wishes. For the 49ers, they were coming into Year 2 of a rebuild, but happened to take a step back with injuries to their best offensive players. The front office has identified major areas of need, primarily pass rush and offensive playmakers, but will have the ammunition to do so after this lost season. While both teams come into Thursday with one win, it’s evident that one team has a plan to address their future, while the other seems to be winging it. The 49ers have a collaborative partnership between John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan, while Jon Gruden is seemingly a one-man show in Oakland. The only similarity that the Raiders and 49ers share eight weeks into the season is the number in the win column. Outside of that, their path to this point couldn’t be any more different.Golden Nuggets: First Day of the Rest of the Season Good morning folks. Now that we’ve had some time to sleep on it, I think most of us can firmly say that yesterday sucked. Ordinarily, the morning after a loss is a great time to go after silver linings, and shift focus to the week at hand. However, yesterday was a colossal kick in the rear, and I wouldn’t blame a single one of you fine people for not being over it. Naturally, I’d hope for the same from you. It’s going to be a hot-take kind of week, and you’ve got my blessing to express yourselves (within prescribed site decorum Youth Brock Coyle Jersey , of course).First things first, Jimmy Garoppolo sustained a fourth quarter knee injury that is expected to be serious. Later today, he’ll meet with the team doctors for an MRI, at which time the severity of the injury will become more clear. However, the Kyle Shanahan has already announced that the team fears a torn ACL, and has already addressed his confidence in CJ Beathard as the next man up. In other major injury news, Richard Sherman will also be meeting with team doctors later today for an MRI on a calf injury he sustained in the second quarter. Although he was later seen in a walking boot, the early diagnosis has pointed towards a calf injury, and thankfully, not an Achilles rupture. The game itself wasn’t much better, as the 49ers took a colossal whooping in the first half, giving up 35 points, and only managing to scrape together 10 of their own in an obvious catch-up kind of game. Although the defense looked fairly serviceable against the run (despite two ground TDs), they were annihilated through the air early and often. Luckily for the box score fans, garbage time started early and the 49ers were able to compile some success after the half. Into the fourth quarter, Jimmy Garoppolo had driven into the Chiefs redzone, threatening to bring the lead to just one touchdown. He was injured on a scramble that will likely be hotly debated for some time - whether the injury was non-contact or due to an ill-advised cutback. On CJ Beathard’s first play in relief of Groptimus Dime, he threw the ugliest pass I’ve ever seen into the arms of his former Iowa teammate George Kittle for a score. Because it’s clear at this point that the Football Deities have it out for 49ers fans, the refs called it back on a universally-panned offensive pass interference call. This was one of the more deflating games in recent memory, and it’ll be very important to see how the team responds to this type of crushing adversity. The 49ers play the Los Angeles Chargers of San Diego next Sunday.Game in ReviewWeek 3 analysis || Maiocco, NBC Sports Bay Area | Almquist, KNBR | Lowder, Ninerswire | Madson Youth Arik Armstead Jersey , NinerswireWeek 3 review || Biderman, Sac Bee | Associated Press via ESPN | Madson, NinerswireInjuries, Roster & Depth Chart49ers confident in CJ Beathard to step in || Maiocco, NBC Sports Bay Area | Almquist, KNBR | Wagoner, ESPN | Madson, NinerswireRichard Sherman to undergo MRI on calf on Monday || Maiocco, NBC Sports Bay Area | Montero, KNBR | Madson, NinerswireJimmy Garoppolo sustains serious injury || Ochoa, 4th & 9 | Maiocco, NBC Sports Bay Area | Montero, KNBR | Almquist, KNBR | Biderman, Sac Bee | Wagoner, ESPN | Madson, Ninerswire“Next man up” is a hollow platitude || Ratto, NBC Sports Bay Area

Why the 49ers won’t look at Colin Kaepernick
The San Francisco 49ers worked out a number of quarterbacks in wake of the Jimmy Garoppolo season-ending knee injury. For now Youth Jaquiski Tartt Jersey , C.J. Beathard will be in the driver’s seat for 2018 barring absolute disaster, but Nick Mullens is behind him, and anyone who can man the backup job may be an improvement. One of the more notable names not on the list of invites was Colin Kaepernick. Of course this brought back the questions (and debates) that this was part of some of the more wider issues keeping him out of the league. So the 49ers are part of this madness with the league colluding and it’s an anti-Kap stance right? Not so fast. His skillset is not a fit in Kyle Shanahan’s offenseGo back and watch the tape of Jimmy Garoppolo. Watch how he stays in the pocket, sometimes where it’s not to his benefit. Shanahan’s offense is predicated on pocket passing and accuracy. Two things when said together Kaepernick has never been able to do well with consistency. Has Kaepernick had good games staying in the pocket? Yes, but more often than not,Kaepernick’s accuracy suffered when he was contained in the pocket. Kaepernick’s threat is a a couple reads and then taking off which gashed defenses. The roll outs he did were absolute killers as well. I don’t think there’s a better quarterback who throws (or threw) rolling out. This made him a great fit for Seattle’s offense, or whatever they ran a year ago. Kaepernick is also a huge threat with the read option. He has the uncanny ability to fool everyone in the stadium (including the person operating the camera) on if he handed it off or kept it. Shanahan has respect for the read option and thinks it’s a valuable part of any NFL offense, but he doesn’t rely on it near as much as Kaepernick may need it. That’s a valuable skill that just won’t be taken advantage of if he runs Shanahan’s offense. Creating an offense to highlight Kaepernick’s skills stunts the growth of the rest of the offenseWhen Kaepernick took over for Alex Smith in 2012, the 49ers’ playbook transformed. No longer were they relying on short/intermediate throws and a power run game, instead they implemented the pistol formation—something Kaepernick was comfortable with from his college days in Nevada. From the pistol, the 49ers then went to other more traditional formations, but the read option was Kaepernick’s bread and butter and they outright embarrassed the Green Bay Packers by running it. There were two reasons for this: the built offense was something to help Kaepernick be comfortable as he transitioned into more of a pocket passer and got more familiar with the NFL level (which resulted in the opposite effect), and it was also seen at the time as the evolution of the NFL game. Before becoming the starter, Kaepernick ran the ‘Kaepernick package’ exclusively, which was where the 49ers pulled Smith for a down and used Kaepernick’s legs. The 49ers thought long-term and knew that Kaepernick was the answer, as was running the read option into other formations, so they changed the offense on the fly to have this package the focal point. It was used less in later years, but the plays used instead required little diagnosing of defensive coverages (a known weakness, and something crucial with the current offense). Since it takes longer than a year for someone to get acclimated as a QB at the NFL level, it may have made the decision easier since Kaepernick would be running this offense for longer than 13 games. Kaepernick is not the future in San Francisco anymore. To take advantage of what he brings to the table would require re-tooling Shanahan’s offense for 13 games — which means everyone will be going to the Kaepernick offense. That’s all fine and good, except the team is very young and in a developmental season. Shanahan wants consistency in his offense. He doesn’t want them playing an offense to be discarded at season’s end. He wants reps in the Jimmy Garoppolo, pocket passing, traditional west coast offense. And those second year players are getting further immersed in the intricacies of it. Remember Youth Alfred Morris Jersey , this is one of the harder offenses in the league, but once mastered it’s devastating—just ask the Atlanta Falcons. Putting Kaepernick in there means those reps turn into something else and for the age of this team, reps in the offense they will be running for years to come is far more important than reps just to win. It’s putting the players in a position to succeed long-term.Shanahan’s offense is hard enough to learn as it is, might as well focus on that than change everything. The 49ers are not in win-now mode, nor do they have a quarterback of the future they want to get playing time or evaluate. Changing everything hurts the future of what they have around the quarterback—and who would be sticking around at season’s end. And if they decided to run Shanahan’s offense—no adjustments, just what are they going to run with Kaepernick coming in without a training camp? So now everyone is held back as they play a stripped down playbook with what they can teach Kaepernick in a short amount of time, which, again stunts the growth of a team developing in a specific mold. If Kaepernick did not opt out, he would have been cutWhen John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan took over, they had a sit-down with Kaepernick. The two were very transparent about their plans and Shanahan’s desire to run an offense similar to the one he ran in Atlanta. It led to Kaepernick opting out of his contract, but had he not done so, he would have been cut according to reports. So what does the past have to do with anything? Well, if you were given an ultimatum to resign from your job or be fired—and you had an option to return two years later, would you be jumping up and down? I doubt it. Despite the fact that Trent Baalke is gone, as are a lot of the front office members who gave Kaepernick all the headaches post-Harbaugh, Paraag Marathe remains—and he has fingerprints on that team-friendly deal Kaepernick got in the first place. While there has been no documented beef between the two, it’s been reported Marathe was never much of a Kaepernick fan. Now, it’s probably a given Marathe isn’t whispering in anyone’s ears to keep Kaepernick out but given all the history between the 49ers and Kaepernick, would that make sense to bring him back after all of that? And there may be others in the front office as well. No, this has nothing to do with his protestingThe 49ers are not denying Kaepernick because of his protesting. Could he be a distraction? Given his history, status with the fanbase, and Beathard’s uninspiring rookie campaign, it’s possible Cheap Solomon Thomas Jersey , but it’s so there’s not a divide in the locker room over him starting or something along those lines, if you want to take it there. The fact he could kneel during the Anthem has nothing to do with that distraction. Remember, the 49ers were nothing but supportive of Kaepernick’s protest then and now. 49ers owner Jed York publicly said he abstained from voting against any Anthem regulations choosing instead to hear more from his players. York also mocked the whole thing in a way by closing down concessions when the Anthem plays. The 49ers have also matched Kaepernick’s many contributions to organizations fighting inequality. Point is, of the 32 teams in the NFL using“football reasons” as an excuse to not sign Kaepernick due to some larger issue, the 49ers are one where that statement could potentially be sincere. Whenever there’s an anniversary of something epic, be it The Catch trilogy, or crazy celebrations, you know we have to bring it up. Today isn’t so much about a play, but it’s about a speech. A speech by one Samurai Mike, better known to you as Mike Singletary, AKA the former 49ers head coach who was better as a motivational speaker.Mike Nolan had just been fired as head coach and Singletary was promoted to interim head coach. All signs of logic wouldhave him going back to his duties as linebackers coach once the season was over and the 49ers had a coaching search. I’d like to think the above speech insured that didn’t happen. On this day 10 years ago, the 49ers faced the Seattle Seahawks in a home game. During the game tight end Vernon Davis was penalized for 15 yards after slapping a Seahawk player. Singletary didn’t just bench Vernon, he sent him to the showers. After the game, the press asked about it, and the above speech took place. Who wouldn’t want to run through a wall for this guy after that? The 49ers would go on to 5-4 under Singletary and he’d get the head coaching job as the season ended. This would prove to be a mistake, as Singletary’s final year had him taking the team to 6-10. The very next year, Jim Harbaugh took essentially the same roster and to over double the win total. Beyond being ignored for what could have been a great Coors Light commercial, this speech also is what changed the attitude of Vernon Davis for the better. Getting pulled from the game and being told he’d be better off on the sidelines shaped him up as a player and a person and eventually led to the Vernon Post. Davis would be an anchor on the 49ers offense for Singletary and Harbaugh before his eventual trading in the Jim Tomsula-era. For a slow Friday night, this video is always a great watch. If you can’t see the video or watch it here, you can always go here.

http://www.49erscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-joe-staley-jersey , Look For Second Win Good morning sports fans, and a good evening to our friends across the ponds. The 49ers play an afternoon game at home today, which may be, not to put the cart before the horse, the most winnable game of the season. Of course, injuries have been the unfortunate headline dominating the 49ers’ 2018 season, and the trend doesn’t seem to be letting up leading into today’s game.Although there has been only one late addition to the injury report (Jimmie Ward dealing with a hamstring injury), the list of players designated as “questionable” is still a mile long. Notably, the Wednesday injury report listed tackles Mike McGlinchey (knee) and Joe Staley (knee), as well as center Weston Richburg (knee), as injured, and there were some questions surrounding the likelihood of recovery by Sunday. Although all three are still “questionable” for the game, the trio participated fully on Friday’s practice, which provides some reason to be optimistic that they’ll be able to perform. Furthermore, guards Joshua Garnett (toe) and Mike Person (knee), who were also listed as questionable, have been removed from the injured list. It seems likely at this point that the team will not be forced to roll with a full complement of backup linemen (outside of Laken Tomlinson, the lone healthy OL) starting today.Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case along the rest of the roster. Veteran cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) has been limited in practice, which is a reassuring sign after immediate hot takes assumed he’d be out for a month or more. Jimmie Ward, however, did not practice on Friday http://www.49erscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-pierre-garcon-jersey , and the pair are listed as questionable. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them both suited up, but planted firmly on the sidelines. The offensive skill group is still hurting, as Dante Pettis (knee) is out for sure, and Marquise Goodwin (hamstring & quad) remains questionable after limited practice. Matt Breida (shoulder) remains questionable as well. If either Goodwin or Breida are unable to go, this game will surely become much more tightly contested, and in a hurry. Let’s hope these guys wake up feeling healthy and refreshed, because we sure could use their help in getting our second win of the season ~ Go Niners!Injury report heading into Sunday || Maiocco, NBC Sports Bay AreaKyle Shanahan believes defensive line is key to victory against Cardinals || Maiocco, NBC Sports Bay Area49ers activate Victor Bolden, waive Tyvis Powell & Najee Toran || Maiocco, NBC Sports Bay Area | Lowder, NinerswireGeorge Kittle garnering national attention || Wagoner, ESPN The 49ers officially released linebacker Reuben Foster on Monday, and 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan spent much of his press conference answering questions about the former first-round pick.Shanahan said the team was “absolutely not” aware of an October incident or report involving Foster.“The first time I heard about it was when someone told us when we landed after it was written in paper,” Shanahan said, via quotes distributed by the team. “Everyone in our building was the same on that. I was aware that Reuben had spoken with her and still talked to her at times. I knew that from just asking him personally.

Pat Shurmur just wanted to get to know Odell Beckham when he arrived
The New York Giants sent shock waves around the NFL onMonday afternoon with Odell Beckham Jr.’s historic contract. In an era in which it seems every big extension is preceded by an acrimonious negotiation or contentious hold-out Youth Kareem Martin Jersey , this deal seemed to get done relatively painlessly. And of course, considering the magnitude of the contract and the stature of the player, that contract has dominated the news cycle ever since. It shouldn’t be any surprise that rather than talking about the Giants’ upcoming game against the New England Patriots, head coach Pat Shurmur was asked about Beckham in his press conference after practice on Tuesday.Getting to know OdellSince he arrived in the Giants’ facilities, Shurmur has made forging relationships with his plays a high priority. That already seems to be paying dividends with Odell Beckham Jr.’s remarkably amicable contract negotiation process. That all started with coach and player coming together and getting to know, and understand, each other.“Well, like any player, I just wanted to get to know him,” Shurmur said, “and he certainly is an outstanding player and he’s going to help us win games and so I just wanted to get to know him like I did with the other players. That was it, just normal communication between a coach and a player and you’ve heard me say it before, we’re here as coaches to help the players be the best they can be. Part of that starts by understanding who they are as players.”The biggest struggle for the Giants’ previous coaching staffs — both Tom Coughlin’s and Ben McAdoo’s — with regards to Beckham has been tempering and controlling his incredible passion for the game. It was an aspect of Beckham’s personality with which Shurmur quickly became acquainted. “I’ve said it numerous times,” Shurmur said, “but he’s super passionate about football. What I’ve seen in this building and what I’ve learned early on is he really cares about what he’s doing. He trains extremely hard. All the things that you need to do, you want to be great and I think I saw that quickly and really haven’t been disappointed in any of that along the way.” In building their relationship Youth Ray-Ray Armstrong Jersey , Shurmur has tried to help Beckham with that part of his game.We all need to control our bodies and our minds and I think that’s – We talk about that with the players constantly, making sure they keep their composure. There’s a real fine line from being competitive and then crossing that line. He’s no different than any other player and we all wrestle with it as competitors. When I was a player, I was involved in a fight or two myself, so I understand mentally how that plays out.On Odell playing against the Jacksonville JaguarsBeckham has yet to take the field in a pre-season game, and is highly unlikely to do so in the fourth game. Without work against a live opponent in a game situation, could Shurmur count on Beckham once the regular season arrives? Shurmur seems to think so, saying, “There’s no doubt in my mind he’ll be ready to go against Jacksonville.”But while the Giants’ new coaching staff hasn’t gotten to see Beckham in a game, they did get to see him on the field in joint practices with the Detroit Lions. “The Detroit week was big,” Shurmur said. “He got a chance to compete against some really fine corners and he did it in practice at a high level in really an uncontrolled setting, so we were able to see it then.”Shurmur believes that Beckham will be ready to take the field against the Jags, but what about the rest of the team? “Well, we’re going to find that out,” Shurmur said. “I feel like we’ve done a lot of good things. I think we’re on the right path. We’ve certainly got a lot of work to do between now and first week and then teams improve as the season goes along, so this is a game – it’s the ultimate team game, you have to practice this game and between the practice sessions B.J. Hill Jersey , you play games. You do what you can to beat the opponent you’re playing on that Sunday and then you move on. It’s really a journey for a team to try to get enough wins to be in the playoffs and as you go through it, you hope as a team you stay healthy and then continue to improve.” The 49ers seemed to be on track to pick up their third win of the season. And then things fell apart for the home team, resulting in loss number eight. So what went wrong?鈥淚t was a number of plays,” coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the 27-23 loss. “Extremely disappointed. I thought we put ourselves in a position that we should have won that game. Up 20-10 after the first drive in the third quarter. Gave up a big kick return right after that, I think, followed by two explosive [plays]. Got them right back in it, 20-17. I thought we had a chance to step on their throat there and we didn鈥檛. We let them get back in it fast. Kept them around. Kept them around too long and then we didn鈥檛 make the plays at the end and we had every opportunity to and just as a team, players, coaching staff, we didn鈥檛 get it done.鈥漈he touchdown that made it 20-17 came when receiver Odell Beckham Jr. got behind cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon on consecutive plays running the same route. The first nearly was a touchdown, the second moved the Giants from 10 to 16. Weatherspoon wasn’t happy with the outcome.鈥淚 think he was expecting help over the top,” Shanahan said. “He was surprised he didn鈥檛 get it.鈥漇hanahan wasn’t happy with Weatherspoon’s reaction.鈥淣o, I am not,” Shanahan said. “No. Man up. Don鈥檛 put that on tape. We鈥檒l deal with it when we come in.鈥漈he 49ers have plenty to deal with as they enter their bye at 2-8.

Giants vs. Jaguars: Giants DC James Bettcher excited
to watch his young players The New York Giants will finally unveil their new-look defense when they take the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars. New defensive coordinator James Bettcher spoke to the media Thursday afternoon New York Giants Hoodie , his first opportunity to do so in the 2018 regular season. Bettcher laid down a quick overview of what the defense needs to accomplish to win Sunday. “We’ve got a great opponent this week, a team that can run the football, as we all know – 141-ish yards a game a year ago, a team that will max protect and take some shots down the field. They’re going to get (Blake Bortles) on the perimeter with some boots and some movement passes,” Bettcher said. “Then, the thing we’ve got to do a great job of is the screen game. We’ve got to be aware of when the screens are coming, whether it’s first (down), second down, third down, and be aware of some of the set-ups for some of those things. With the receiver (Marquis Lee) out, it’s going to be – whether it’s (Dede Westbrook), (Donte Moncrief), whoever it is that’s their guy that they’re going to try to hit down the field, those are the guys that we’re going to have to be aware of and just adjust during the first part of the game.” But containing the Jaguars’ offense isn’t the only challenge Bettcher and his defense faces this weekend. On the roster turnoverAfter going 3-13 in 2017 Customized New York Giants Jerseys , it was expected that there would be more than the normal amount of roster change in the 2018 offseason for the Giants. What wasn’t expected was how extensive the Giants’ roster makeover would be, or how long it would last. The team made a league-leading six waiver wire claims after final cuts, and added veterans as late as Tuesday with the signing of LB Nate Stupar. All told, the team has changed 15 percent of its roster — after initially setting their 53-man roster this past Saturday. Six of those players are on the defensive side.Bettcher runs a very aggressive defense which relies on a variety of formations and disguises to keep allow it to bring pressure without being exploited by the offense. Perhaps the biggest question facing the defense heading in to Week 1 is how the Giants will integrate all the new players.“One of the things is we’ve got some great ownership in the room,” Bettcher said, “We’ve got some guys that are really taking a hold of what we’ve been trying to do over the last five-six months as a defense. We’ve really tried to teach it as concepts, so the guys that are here understand the concepts, then you just feed those guys as they come in pieces and they learn on the way.” “I love what we’re doing about just searching and finding and working guys through,” he added. “I’m excited about some of the guys that have come in, and I’m excited to work with anybody we bring in, because all we’re going to ask them to is to get their hand on the pylon and go to work.”On free safety Curtis RileyThat process of working players through and finding contributors started well before this week. It was assumed that Darian Thompson or Andrew Adams would take a starting role next to Landon Collins. Instead, Curtis Riley made the switch from cornerback to safety upon signing with the Giants and seized the starting job when Thompson went down with an injury in the spring. He never let that job go, and now neither Adams nor Thompson are on the team.“Curtis really from the beginning has been playing pretty well for a guy that doesn’t have a lot of time on the job at the position,” Bettcher said. “Obviously an outside guy converted inside www.authenticsnewyorkgiants.com , I think when you go look at little things like how much time he’s spending on his iPad watching tape, how engaged he is in meetings and the conversation he’s having in the classroom, then when you go out and watch the tape and he’s running around, some of the plays he’s made, obviously missed a little time with the injury, but has come off of that and really picked up where he left off. He’s a guy that his arrow is really up and I’ll be excited to watch him play this Sunday.”On Lorenzo Carter and B.J. HillThe other notable part of the Giants’ defensive roster turnover has been the rise of DT B.J. Hill and EDGE Lorenzo Carter to play significant roles on the defense.Carter was rumored to be a favorite of Bettcher’s throughout the draft process. He possesses a rare blend of length and athleticism that compares to players like Danielle Hunter, Jadeveon Clowney, Khalil Mack, and Leonard Floyd. The issue for Carter isn’t his athletic ability, but rather his ability to harness it and put it to use. “(Lorenzo) is a guy that, the longer it goes with him, I think the thing I see the most is the faster he plays,” Bettcher said. “He’s starting to really understand what we’re doing and what we’re asking of him, number one New York Giants T-Shirt , then two, just as a rusher, he’s really learning how to rush. To me, as young players in this league, that’s a year-long process that might be into year two with a lot of guys.” Hill surprised by quickly taking one of the starting spots on the Giants’ three-man defensive line, along with Dalvin Tomlinson and Damon Harrison. Hill was largely overshadowed by Bradley Chubb and the athleticism of Kentavius Street coming out of North Carolina State. But despite largely playing nose tackle or the 1-technique for NC State, Hill is plenty athletic himself, with impressive movement skills for a 6-foot-3, 315-pound lineman. “He’s just a guy that came in, he’s probably one of the most professional rookies I’ve ever been around,” Bettcher said. “When he came in the building, he was business and he understood how we needed to work, a guy that takes care of his body – he’s just really ahead of his age in terms of years in the league.”Hill and Carter could play key roles on Sunday.“They’re going to play very meaningful snaps in this game, play a lot of snaps in this game New York Giants Hats , and I’ll be excited to watch some of these young guys fly around and play,” Bettcher said. The Eagles may have some explaining to do to the league office.Lane Johnson has a high ankle sprain. He was limited in practice through Tuesday, and he fully participated on Wednesday. The Eagles did not give Johnson an injury designation when filing their final injury report on Wednesday. Then came Thursday morning, and the Eagles suddenly decided to supplement the report by listing Johnson as questionable. Multiple reporters have characterized Johnson’s status as a toss up, with a very real possibility that he won’t play.So why wasn’t he listed as questionable in the first place? The revision to the policy from earlier in the decade ditched the “probable” label but expanded “questionable” to encompass anything less than 100 percent down to 50-50. The notion that there would be no doubt that Johnson would play on Wednesday becoming real doubt that he’ll miss the game a day later to, possibly, Johnson not playing would likely result in the NFL taking a closer look at whether the Eagles violated the injury reporting policy.Obviously, this is about more than whether the Giants had fair notice that Johnson won’t play. Betting is legal in multiple states. Bets were placed on Wednesday in reliance on the accuracy of the injury report. More importantly, some bettors may have known that Johnson was no sure thing to play, contrary to the clear message sent by the injury report. It seems that the league in recent years has become more lax regarding the injury reporting policy. If anything, the league should be tightening things up. And Philadelphia’s handling of Lane Johnson’s situation, whatever the intent, should at a minimum invite careful scrutiny as to why Johnson wasn’t listed as questionable on Wednesday.

It appears the New York Giants organization has reached the
conclusion its fans came to long ago Curtis Riley Jersey , deciding to move on from tackle Ereck Flowers. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Giants will try to find a trade partner for the offensive lineman and, barring that, will release him by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Coach Pat Shurmur confirmed this report in talking to reporters on Monday. The Giants are also confirming it.The Giants selected Flowers with the ninth overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, hoping that he’d be a long-time anchor of their offensive line at left tackle. However, that initial promise never flourished; he’s been the team’s leader in penalties called against him during his tenure while giving up 169 quarterback pressures, the most of any offensive tackle since 2015 according to Pro Football Focus (via Patricia Traina at Forbes.com). The Washington Post has Flowers allowing 18 sacks in 51 games (with 48 starts) as well as 28 penalties over his Giants career. The writing was on the wall for Flowers’ chances to contribute this year, first by the Giants’ signing of free agent Nate Solder to handle left tackle duties and then by the team declining to pick up Flowers’ $12.525 million fifth-year option in May. The final nail in the coffin came in late September, when Flowers, moved to right tackle, was then benched in favor of Chad Wheeler.Despite the need for tackle help and depth around the league, it will be hard for the Giants to find a trade partner in time for the team’s reported self-imposed Tuesday afternoon deadline. As Schefter points out, any team to add him would also add Flowers’ $2.39 million base salary. Given Flowers’ well-publicized struggles in the NFL, few teams would want to put forth that kind of cash for someone who may be no more than a bench piece for the rest of the season. As for the Giants, they should have no trouble replacing Flowers. New York currently has three offense tackles on their practice squad — Brian Mihalik, Victor Salako and Jylan Ware — and one of whom will likely be promoted to the 53-man roster once Flowers is off of it.Instant analysis: Shame on me for thinking the Giants were going to win Sunday Remember all that optimism about how the New York Giants had found their offense and perhaps turned their season around in a 27-22 victory over the Houston Texans a week ago?Well Nate Solder Jersey , fuhgeddaboutit!Facing a team giving up a league-worst 34.3 points per game and with a secondary giving up 336.7 yards per game (30th in the NFL) and playing without injured cornerback Patrick Robinson the Giants offense couldn’t — or really wouldn’t — push the ball down the field and try to take advantage. The numbers for quarterback Eli Manning (31-of-41, 255 yards, a touchdown, no interceptions, a 99.1 passer rating) look fine. The reality, though, is far different.Manning went 6-of-7 for 41 yards on the Giants’ opening 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. After the Saints took a 26-10 lead with 6:47 to play Manning went 8-of-12 for 108 yards. On the Giants’ other seven possessions? Nothing. Well, 17 completions in 22 attempts. For a measly 106 yards. The Giants got one 33-yard Aldrick Rosas field goal out of all of that. There is some frustration seeping inJust listen to Odell Beckham Jr., who was really a non-factor in the game. Beckham had 7 catches in 11 targets for 60 yards, but two of those catches and 40 of those yards came in the final six minutes with the game basically out of reach. At halftime, Beckham had 2 receptions for -4 yards.Pat Shurmur was testier with reporters during his post-game press conference than I can recall him being since he became Giants’ head coach.Asked about an offense that has reached the 20-point mark only once in four games — and still hasn’t hit 30 since Tom Coughlin was coach 38 games ago, Shurmur was short:“We need to score more points.”Does he need to make “massive changes?”“No. We need to get better. What does that mean, massive changes? We need to get better.”Why did the Giants, facing a defense that had struggled mightily in pass coverage during its first three games Authentic Sterling Shepard Jersey , run an offense that featured short throw after short throw, rarely challenging New Orleans with passes that had any depth to them all?“They played a lot of soft zone. A lot of soft zone,” Shurmur said. “We just had to pick away at ‘em a little bit.”Manning was part of the problemWas this a “Check down Eli” game, or was the play-calling designed, as Shurmur said, to “pick away” and look for yardage after the catch?“I thought he did a lot of good things. He’ll come up here and tell you he missed some things,” Shurmur said. “We actually called a lot of play actions to get the ball down field and those became check downs because of that soft zone.”Whether Manning was right to consistently check the ball down or missed opportunities to try for deeper shots is difficult to say. While completing 12-of-16 in the first half, Manning missed a pair of throws to an open Beckham, including a cross field sideline route where Beckham could have had a nice gain had the ball not sailed over his head. There was also a third-quarter throw to Rhett Ellison from the New Orleans 14-yard line that could have been a touchdown but Manning’s throw, while catchable, was high enough that a Saints defensive back was able to get a hand on it and prevent a catch. The Giants settled for a field goal that made the score 19-10.“Tonight was a frustrating one. We got off to a good start and had a good drive. We were moving the ball and making plays on this team but we just weren’t able to do it. We got into some third and longs that we didn’t convert on,” Manning said. “They had some good calls and some good plays. They weren’t going to give us anything deep. They took away all the deep stuff and made us go underneath. That was fine. We were going to just have to have some long drives and continue to play that way. There was a few times where they knocked us out of some good down and distance and we weren’t able to sustain some drives.”The defense wasn’t part of the problemFour times in the first half New Orleans threatened and the Giants forced the Saints to settle for field goals. While the offense was picking away and, truthfully, getting nothing done after that opening drive the defense was keeping the Giants in the game.Entering the season, most analysts thought the opposite would be the case. With the play-makers the Giants had at their disposal Youth Kareem Martin Jersey , Beckham, Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram (out with an MCL sprain) and a veteran quarterback like Manning at the controls the thought was that the Giants would score enough points. The question was whether or not the defense could get enough stops.Through four games, for the most part things haven’t turned out that way. The defense is giving the Giants a chance. The offense, for the most part, hasn’t held up its end of the bargain. The Giants fooled usOr, at least, fooled me. I picked the Giants to win on Sunday. And yes, I’m 0-4 and really, really bad at picking games. I have, however, always admitted as much. That’s irrelevant.Thing is, the Giants did enough good things against the Houston Texans to make me believe they were pointed in the right direction. That, facing a porous defense like the one the Saints had been through their first three games Youth Ray-Ray Armstrong Jersey , the 30-point streak — now in its third season — was sure to fall. This, however, is still a team that can’t play consistently good offense. Is it the blocking? The play-calling? The quarterback play? Penalties at bad times? Is Beckham maybe, just maybe, not quite what he used to be before he busted his ankle?I’m not sure. Maybe it’s all of the above.“We’re 1-3 and that’s not where we want to be right now. We were in some games that were close enough to make more plays we might have and an opportunity to win,” Shurmur said. “You just keep working. You just keep working and you play your way out of it and you coach your way out of it. Period. That’s what you do, and that’s the reality of it, and that’s what I trust our guys and our coaches will do.”Sadly, that sounds an awful lot like what we’ve heard for the majority of the past seven seasons. What we have been seeing on the field is also all too reminiscent of those losing seasons that have become all too commonplace for the Giants. Unless something changes dramatically — and soon — with this offense, the Giants appear headed for another one.

The newest member of the New York Giants
Devin McCourty Jersey , former first-round pick and wide receiver Corey Coleman, doesn't want to dwell on his past."I don't want to talk about all that," Coleman said. "I've left that all behind."The 24-year-old Coleman was promoted to the Giants' 53-man roster Thursday after former All-Pro defensive tackle Damon "Snacks" Harrison was officially traded to the Detroit Lions for a fifth-round draft pick. Coleman was promoted to take Harrison's spot on the roster."This organization wanted me and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be here," Coleman said before the Giants practiced before hosting the Washington Redskins on Sunday. "I just want to contribute in some way. I think this organization fits me well."Coleman has had a bumpy ride so far this season.During training camp in August, the former Cleveland Browns' first-round selection out of Baylor (No. 15 overall) in the 2016 draft was unhappy with the way he was being used by Browns coach Hue Jackson and expressed his displeasure to Jackson and Browns general manager John Dorsey. The conversation between Coleman, Jackson and Dorsey was highlighted on the HBO series "Hard Knocks". Days after meeting with Jackson and Dorsey, Coleman was traded to the Buffalo Bills for a seventh-round draft pick in the 2020 draft.Coleman's tenure with the Bills was extremely brief. He lasted just two weeks and didn't make it to the final cuts by the Bills and was released Sept. 1.Ten days later, Coleman was signed by the New England Patriots, but his time with the Patriots was also brief. He was released Sept. 17 after the Patriots traded to get Coleman's former Browns teammate Josh Gordon.Three days later, Coleman was signed to the Patriots' practice squad and nine days after that, Coleman was released.Coleman was out of football for most of October after making tryout visits with several teams. Last week, Coleman was signed to the Giants practice squad and after the Giants had receivers Jawill Davis and Russell Shepard get hurt, Coleman was promoted to the active roster in time for Sunday's game.Coleman said he's ready to be a factor right away if called upon."It was frustrating to go through all of this, but I had to keep the faith and keep working," Coleman said. "I felt like I would get another chance."Giants coach Pat Shurmur said that it will take some time for Coleman to fit in."We're going to try to get him up to speed," Shurmur said. "First, obviously, he'll help on special teams Authentic Julian Edelman Jersey Salute to Service , then try to get him in on our offensive sets as well."When Coleman was asked if he had a poor reputation because of what transpired on "Hard Knocks", he wasn't worried."Everyone has an opinion about you," Coleman said. "A lot of people don't really know me and know the person I am. I can't change what happened. I now have a new opportunity here and I'm ready to prove to people that I belong."Everything happens for a reason. I'm not going to sit back and evaluate what happened (in Cleveland). I think I'm always going to have a chip on my shoulder. It's because I want to play. People who don't know me can't judge me."In 19 games with the Browns in the 2016-17 seasons, he had 56 catches for 718 yards and five touchdowns.Coleman wants to make his mark with his new club, albeit the fourth team he's been with since August."I think people are going to see the new version of me," Coleman said. "I feel like I'm ready to play wherever the coaches want me to play. Sometimes you just have to put your ego to the side. If it was meant for me to go to the practice squad here, then that's what I had to do."Now I have to prove that I'm worthy of being on the team. It's great to be a part of this receiving corps. It's a great opportunity."NOTES: While the Giants traded two defensive starters in cornerback Eli Apple (to the Saints) and Harrison (Lions) this week, other defensive starters didn't exactly worry about possibly being traded by the deadline. "Business is business," said cornerback Janoris Jenkins, one of those rumored to be shopped around the league. "I understand it's a business. I'll be here until they tell me differently. I'm not going to worry about what's going on." ... Rookie RB Saquon Barkley is looking forward to playing against the Redskins and Adrian Peterson. "He's a special talent," Barkley said of Peterson, who is having a solid season at age 33. "It's going to be a thrill to see him play live. He's a future Hall of Famer." Jalen Ramsey says New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore's criticism is "lame, corny," adding "but it's him, though."In a radio interview Wednesday, Gilmore took a shot at the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back by saying "a lot of people can talk, but you've got to back it up, which he does. Sometimes."Speaking to "The Sports Hub" radio show in Boston Limited Kevin Faulk Jersey , Gilmore added: "That's not my style, but I find a lot of guys that talk are mostly zone guys so they have a lot of energy to do that."Ramsey fired back Thursday, saying "we know that's furthest from the truth.""I'm going to continue to do what this team asks me to do," Ramsey said. "Man or zone. Maybe he should try it. I was All-Pro."Ramsey usually plays press coverage and regularly follows the opponent's best receiver all over the field. He shadowed New York Giants star Odell Beckham in the season opener and did the same last week against Kansas City speedster Tyreek Hill. Beckham caught 11 passes for 111 yards against Jacksonville, with 63 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Hill had four receptions for 61 yards, including a 36-yarder over Ramsey."I've never understood why somebody on the same side of the ball would hate on another guy," said Ramsey, who made headlines in the preseason for ripping many NFL quarterbacks . "Usually we're going against the opponent. Maybe I'm a threat or something. I really don't know. ... It was weird to me. It's lame, corny, but it's him, though."Ramsey has 17 tackles and one pass breakup this season."If the team is happy with my production out there, whether I'm playing man or zone, I'm good with it," he said. "I'm a zone guy. I'm a man guy. I'm going to do what the team asks me and I'm going to do it at a high level. It's cool. We know that's furthest from the truth, though. I play a good mix of both, but I think everybody knows I'm playing man majority of the time."

Patriots vs. Dolphins: Fan Notes from the Game

#123 liny195 » 26.01.2019, 07:29

So what are you guys planning on doing this January when the Patriots’ season is over?Wait Authentic Phillip Dorsett Jersey Salute to Service , what? What’s that? It might be a little too early to start making posteason plans, because it’s still September and the Patriots are figuring things out? And they beat the Dolphins handily yesterday and all that doom and gloom of the past few weeks might have been a little reactionary? Oh, OK. Good to know. For aminute there I thought that this team sucked and we may as well just give up now. Glad everyone set me straight!I went to my first ever Patriots game as a kid in 1993, a 28-14 beatdown at the hands of the Houston Oilers. When I went off to college in the Providence area, I started going to at least one game a year, and that tradition has continued for almost two decades now. I have been to at least one Patriots game a year since about 2000 or so. I’ve been to divisional matchups, playoff games,Peyton Manning showdowns and last second Kenbrell Thompkins game winning catches. I’ve even been to a certain Super Bowl that may or may not have taken place at the end of the 2007 season. And in the 30 or so Pats games I have attended since then, this was the second-biggest blowout I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing live. Number One was the AFC Championship Game against the Colts back during the 2014 season...but that took place on a cold, rainy January evening where I was soaked through to the bone before the first half was even over. Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous Fall afternoon where it was 24-0 at halftime, the game was never in doubt, and all seemed right with the world. Going to be tough to top a viewing experience like that.I’m going to get the negative out of the way now and focus more on what went right, but it’s worth saying right off the bat: yesterday was a good game. I’m not going to call it a great game and magically assume that everything is back to normal in New England. Tommy B still isn’t throwing with the same accuracy he should be. He threw behind the receiver on several occasions, including a wide open Gronk on the seam route on their opening drive. He had two boneheaded throws, both of which ended in picks, and a few more of his passes bounced into the air before hitting the turf. He’s not looking like his old self - and I don’t want to say he’s looking like his new old self, but the Pats left points on the board yesterday and Brady is responsible for that.Speaking of Gronk...I’ll go ahead and chalk up his pedestrian day to the ankle injury he’s still nursing, because he’s still the best blocking tight end in the game. I still think it’s just a matter of time before he goes off, but it’s not quite there yet.I was also unimpressed with the foot long hot dog I got yesterday. I usually take down three of those things during the course of a game, but found them to be soggy and lukewarm. So I only ate two.Other than that, though...in what was as close to a must-win Week 4 game as it gets, the Patriots came out and absolutely curbstomped the Dolphins in a game that was over by halftime. Ryan Allen only punted once all game and Ryan Tannehill’s longest drive of the day lasted five plays - and went five yards. Of Miami’s 10 possessions (11 if you count the end of half kneeldown), three were 3 and outs that netted negative yardage and two ended in turnovers. So on half of Miami’s drives, they either went backwards or gave the ball away. What exactly caused the defensive turnaround? What did the Patriots do differently? From where I was sitting all the way up in section 332, it was the linebackers, specifically Dont’a Hightower. A Bill Belichick defense lives and dies by its linebackers, and Hightower looked back to form in yesterday’s game. I don’t know if he was still shaking the rust off or getting fully healthy or threatened by the emergence of Ja’whaun Bentley or what, but that’s no matter. Hightower was an animal yesterday in the best kind of way - the way that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet. For example:On three separate occasions, Hightower crashed the center of the line and forced Tannehill to throw it before he wanted to. The result was two incompletions and a catch for a loss.I lost count of how many times Hightower, wearing the green dot, signaled behind him to the secondary to change the play at the line. Seeing as how Miami only had 11 first downs and were 3 for 11 on 3rd down, he’s obviously seeing things much more clearly nowEdge contain was a massive problem for the defense over the first three weeks of the season; not so much yesterday. Linebackers spread wider to prevent the stretch run, and it worked to perfection. Kyle van Noy was probably the best at this; besides the fumble recovery, he forced multiple runs for a loss and had the backs turned around on several occasions. There was even a well-timed blitz and sack from DE/LB hybrid John Simon, who the Patriots signed just this past week.As for the offense...I’m just glad that the Patriots saw it in their heart to give draft bust and national disgrace Sony Michel just one more chance to prove himself. Seeing how he has been on the team and totally active for all of training camp preseason Week 1 two games Limited Danny Shelton Jersey , it’s understandable as to why everyone was ready to cut him and move on to Ralph Webb. I hope that his 112 yards and a touchdown at least made some small dent in earning the coaching staff’s favor back. The best part of Michel’s day, though, was his blitz pickup and what he did as a chip blocker. Tommy B wasn’t sacked all day, mainly because of the offensive line, but also because of what Michel was able to do out of the backfield. 175 total yards on the ground is just fine with me.I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that James White may be the most important player on this offense not named Tom Brady. In a wildly up-and-down first quarter of the season, White has been the only player who has consistently been playing well. And he’s doing it all, too - running between the tackles, bouncing outside, fielding toss plays, serving as the outlet receiver on checkdowns, and even running a few legit passing routes. His TD reception was an out and up from the backfield made possible by Chris Hogan drawing the safety to the middle of the field and leaving the corner end zone uncovered...but that was a great route and an excellent sell of the sit-down. If you had asked me what I thought Cordarrelle Patterson would bring to the team when they first signed him, yesterday’s game is exactly what I would have envisioned. A few gadget plays, about 50 yards on three receptions, and maybe a TD.I could, however, do without the seemingly weekly play where he catches a screen in the backfield and trips over his own feet for a loss. My favorite thing about Philip Dorsett isn’t his somersaulting TD catches. It isn’t the way he comes back when Brady is in trouble to provide an outlet. It isn’t the way he can make guys miss in space. It’s that the Colts used a first round pick on him and couldn’t figure out how to make him fit into their system. It just makes me happy. That’s everyone on offense, right? Nobody else of note playing yesterday?Oh yeah! Josh Gordon. About him...There’s are many reasons I love going to games, and one of those reasons is listening to extremely hydrated Patriots fans break down the game like they have any idea what they’re talking about. There was a man with his wife sitting next to me, and it became almost immediately obvious that she wasn’t a football fan at all and was just there to ogle Tommy B and support her man in something he clearly loves. And good for her, I say; we should always support the things our significant others are into. Anyway, I don’t think this guy had less than two beers in his hand at any point from whistle to whistle, and as he got more and more hydrated his analysis became more and more hysterical. But the one element that never wavered from the first quarter to the fourth was his adamant insistence that Josh Gordon was wearing #84. I don’t know if it was Patterson’s dreadlocks covering up his entire last name except for the “on,” but even after Patterson scored and John Rooke announced his name over the loudspeaker, this guy stayed all in. And the woman, Tebow bless her, she was all in on Joshdarrelle Gatterdon. That’s a ride or die wife right there. As for the actual Gordon, wearing number 10...very solid first outing. Two catches for 32 yards is nothing to write home about, but one of those grabs was a contested third down conversion and the other had his strength and athleticism on display as he broke tackles and picked up 19.Gordon was also the blocking receiver on James White’s TD run and created a massive lane for White to rush through. Gillette Stadium went nuts every time he touched the ball - which you also figure would have tipped off that guy to my right that maybe he had his wires crossed. It’s really too bad that the Patriots couldn’t stop the fabled Osweilier-to-Gore connection, otherwise they could have preserved the shutout. But I don’t think any team in NFL history has ever been able to stop Osweiler to Gore, so I guess I don’t feel too bad.No time to enjoy this one - Indy is coming to town on Thursday in what I’m sure is going to be a clean, effective, well-planned game between two teams that have both had plenty of time to rest and recover.UPDATE: A friend of mine not-so-subtly pointed out that he and I went to the 2009 game between the Pats and Titans in which they won 59-0 in an absolute deluge of wet snow and freezing rain. I guess I blocked that game out because I was wet and miserable the whole time, but a game is a game. This game is actually the third biggest blowout I have attended. But the biggest blowout I have attended with the sun shining. So there’s that. Derek Carr avoided a sack, stepped up in the pocket and found Brandon LaFell for a go-ahead 6-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter for the Oakland Raiders. He then let out a scream in his most boisterous celebration of the season, letting out the pent up frustration from one of the more trying weeks of his career. It proved to be short-lived relief as the Raiders collapsed again in the fourth quarter and lost for the sixth time in seven games this season Jason McCourty Jersey , falling 42-28 to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.Carr's no-good, very bad week that started with a trade of his No. 1 receiver Amari Cooper, featured reports questioning his toughness and his teammates' belief in him as well as his long-term future with the Raiders ended with another loss."I had to answer some funny questions, but you know I know that you guys have to do your jobs," Carr said. "It's nothing personal, I know that. It was different. If I'm being honest as a human, it was hard. A lot of the stuff that was going around, I was like, 'Man, that's just not true and that hurts.' Especially just as a man, not even a football player. My goodness, enough is enough. Just to be able to go out here and play football again."Carr played well, throwing three touchdown passes and running it in for a fourth score. He completed 17 straight passes at one point and played turnover-free for just the second time this season. But it wasn't enough to get the Raiders (1-6) out of their rut thanks to an even better performance from Andrew Luck and the Colts (3-5), who broke the game open with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter."I think he's the strength of this team and I'm excited about him," coach Jon Gruden said. Here are some other takeaways from the game:MOST POINTS IN NFL HISTORYVinatieri set the record as the NFL's top all-time scorer in the first half. He kicked a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter to tie Morten Andersen with 2,544 points and then added a 25-yarder late in the second to set the record. Vinatieri scored three more points, giving him 2,550 for his career."I never thought I'd play that long," said the 45-year-old Vinatieri, who is in his 23rd NFL season. "I never thought I'd be standing here talking to you guys about all-time records. But I love my teammates 鈥?all of them 鈥?for the last 20-something years, unselfishly going out there and helping me do my job. A lot of great memories along the way. I think that's the best part about this day 鈥?less the record and more that we got the record in a win."TIGHT END TRIOLuck threw TD passes to tight ends Mo Alie-Cox, Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle, making the Colts the first team since the 1970 merger to get TD catches from three tight ends in the same game. Doyle's 10-yarder put the Colts up for good but the most impressive was the first, a 26-yarder with one hand by Alie-Cox."I don't get too emotional on the sideline, but I got pretty jacked up after that catch," coach Frank Reich said. "That was unreal. That catch will rival anything that we'll see. Big time."MIGHTY MACKColts running back Marlon Mack followed up last week's career-best, 126-yard performance against Buffalo with an even better one. He ran for 132 yards and two TDs. This is just the sixth time the Colts have had a 100-yard rusher during Luck's seven NFL seasons and the first time since Joseph Addai did it in 2007 that a back topped the century mark in consecutive games."Definitely as a running back, more carries you feel like you get more comfortable in the game," Mack said. "That really, truly helps you out. Even if you do get less, you have to make what (they give you) work."MARTIN'S GAFFEThe game turned in the fourth quarter when Doug Martin fumbled on the first play from scrimmage after Luck's TD pass to Doyle had given the Colts the lead. That set up Mack's second TD run and spoiled what had been a promising day for Martin in his first start in place of the injured Marshawn Lynch. Martin had 13 carries for 72 yards and caught two passes for 17."To fumble like that at the end, it sucks but a lot of guys went out there and played their hearts out," Martin said. "They put it all out there on the field."

As some of you might have noticed
Limited Steve Grogan Jersey , today is election day in the United States. Tomorrow, the country will have newly elected House and Senate chambers, some new Governors, and a lot of new laws and regulation. That being said, Pats Pulpit is not a political website, so we will not comment on any of those (and neither should you per our community guidelines). However, what we are is a website having its finger on the pulse of the time. After all, there is a reason why we write about the annual tradition better known as the “Buttfumble” every single year. This is also the reason why today’s election offers us the chance to try our own hands at democracy in this year’s Pats Pulpit election special! The rules are simple: a series of questions about the New England Patriots and you pick one of the candidates on the ballot.(Note: if you are visiting via Google AMP or Apple News please go directly to patspulpit.com to participate). No Trey Flowers Jersey , Tom Brady doesn’t need the money. Yes, the contract term that would give him up to $5 million in extra 聽pay on performance is nevertheless important to him, otherwise he wouldn’t have taken the time to add it to his deal.Through 75 percent of the season, the Patriots quarterback is on pace to reach none of the five incentives that would reward him with $1 million each. The payments hinge on Brady finishing in the top five in passing yards, passing touchdowns, passer rating, completion percentage, and yards per attempt.Last year Authentic Jordan Richards Jersey , Brady finished in the top five in each category. This year, with Brady down a bit statistically and the best of the rest of the quarterbacks way, way up, he’s currently ninth in passing yards (3,342), fourteenth in passing touchdowns (20), fifteenth in passer rating among starting quarterbacks (96.8), twenty-first in completion percentage among starting quarterbacks (65.9) Montee Ball Jersey Salute to Service , and eleventh in yards per attempt among starting quarterbacks (7.7).The extra five million was intended to get Brady’s pay in better line with other quarterbacks, given that he had a salary of $14 million at a time when more and more quarterbacks are approaching and passing $20 million annually. Brady has another $14 million base salary in 2019, the last year of his current contract with the Patriots.Given that Brady plans to play for four more years, it will be very interesting to see whether and what extent he gets an adjustment or an extension in 2019, especially since he likely will lose the $5 million in extra pay he was due to get this year.

Baker Mayfield took the snap in victory formation and dropped to one knee.
The cocky rookie quarterback urged the crowd to make more noise http://www.clevelandbrownsteamonline.com/myles-garrett-jersey , and when the clock hit zeroes, the stadium's sound system blasted "Danger Zone."The Browns have become hazardous to your playoff health.Mayfield outplayed Cam Newton, Jarvis Landry caught a touchdown pass and ran for another score and the Cleveland Browns damaged Carolina's postseason hopes with a 26-20 win Sunday over the Panthers, who dropped their fifth straight.Mayfield bravely threw a 51-yard TD pass into traffic to Landry, who had a 3-yard scoring run and added a long run 鈥?on a similar call 鈥?early in the fourth quarter to set up a go-ahead touchdown.Playing the spoiler role down the stretch, the Browns (5-7-1) kept their faint playoff hopes alive while improving to 3-2 under interim coach Gregg Williams, who needed just five games to match former Browns coach Hue Jackson's win total over two-plus seasons."Everybody loves winning," said defensive end Myles Garrett. "It's different for us because of the negatives we've been through, but that's all in the past."Mayfield finished 18 of 22 for 238 yards, continuing his bounce back after throwing three interceptions in the first half last week at Houston. "We pulled together as a team."There were no smiles or laughs in Carolina's locker room as the Panthers (6-7) suffered a loss that could haunt them for months and will increase the heat on coach Ron Rivera.Newton passed for 265 yards, but overthrew Jarius Wright on 4th-and-goal at the 3 with 2:35 left. Carolina got the ball back, but Newton, who has been playing with a sore right shoulder, badly missed Devin Funchess and was intercepted by Damarious Randall with 57 seconds left.Following the game, a glum Newton didn't offer any excuses."We're done with the cliche sayings, it just comes down to doing our jobs," Newton said. "I'm not talking about nobody but myself."Carolina came in just a half-game out of the second wild-card spot in the NFC, but with only three games left Jarvis Landry Jersey Elite , including two against New Orleans, the Panthers are going to need help to make the postseason.Christian McCaffrey had two TD runs for Carolina and finished with 101 total yards."It stinks," McCaffrey said. "A lot of people are against us right now, but I'll fight for every one of these guys. That's exactly what I'm going to do and I know a lot of guys will do as well. We lost. We've lost a few in a row. It's kind of us against the world right now."Browns rookie Nick Chubb scored on a 1-yard run to give the Browns a 23-20 lead with 13:05 left. The score came one play after Landry took an inside handoff and weaved his way down field. Greg Joseph clanged the extra point off the left upright, keeping the Panthers within three.Newton drove the Panthers to the 3 before throwing two straight incompletions, ending Carolina's best chance to take the lead.Mayfield's 51-yard TD pass to Landry tied it 14-all with 8:27 left in the second quarter.Rolling left out of the pocket to buy some time, Mayfield stepped up and confidently delivered a perfect strike to Landry, who was well covered on the play by safety Eric Reid, his former LSU teammate. As fans celebrated, Landry and several teammates sat down in the end zone's corner and pretended to warm themselves around a camp fire."It was cold outside," Landry said http://www.clevelandbrownsteamonline.com/jarvis-landry-jersey , smiling.FAST STARTOn Cleveland's first play, Mayfield unloaded a pass that traveled more than 60 yards in the air to wide receiver Breshad Perriman for a 66-yard pickup. Two plays later, Landry scored on his short run.HOME SWEET HOMEThe Browns improved to 4-2-1 at FirstEnergy Stadium, clinching their first winning home season since going 7-1 under coach Romeo Crennel in 2007."That's pretty cool because the Dawg Pound has always been loyal to us," said guard Joel Bitonio, who has spent all five of his NFL seasons with the team. "We want every team to say, 'We don't want to go to Cleveland to play.'"NEWTON'S LAWWith his first completion, Newton eclipsed 3,000 yards passing for the eighth straight season. He came in needing 1 yard to reach the plateau and surpassed it on a 25-yarder to Curtis Samuel on Carolina's second snap.Newton joined Peyton Manning as the only quarterbacks in history to reach 3,000 yards in each of their first eight seasons.PAY DIRTChubb became the first Browns player to score a rushing TD in five consecutive games since Greg Pruitt in 1975.ROOKIE RECORDMayfield joined Kurt Warner (1999) and Brad Johnson (1996-97) as the only players since 1966 to throw at least one TD pass in each of their first 10 career starts.INJURIES:Panthers: No significant injuries.Browns: C JC Tretter barely made it off the field in the third quarter before dropping to his knees. Our players and our coaches are doing everything that we can to win each and every game we play. That’s why you play. Nothing more; nothing less than that. I don’t feel any extra pressure of, ‘Boy, Hue, you better win or else.’ I have never felt that since I’ve been here.“I’m trying to do the best job that I can with the staff and with the players, and we have to find a way to win some games. Browns likely have one wide receiver spot still open
This week marks the final week of the preseason and a key date is looming as teams must cut their rosters down to the NFL-mandated limit of 53 players on Sept. 1 by 4 p.m. While the Cleveland Browns appear set at the top of the various position groups http://www.thebrownsfootballauthentic.com/jamie-collins-jersey-authentic , there are still end-of-the-roster battles to watch, most notably at wide receiver. On Saturday, head coach Hue Jackson expressed his desire to have six wide receivers on the roster, calling that a “good number.” So who are the six that will make the initial roster? It is safe to say that veterans Jarvis Landry and Josh Gordon - now that he has remastered the art of breaking the huddle — are locks to make the team. Go ahead and put down rookie Antonio Callaway and Rashard Higgins, who is showing what a player in his third year can do when given a chance, down for spots as well. Damion Ratley, a sixth-round selection from Texas A&M has looked good in the preseason and should see a considerable amount of playing time in the final preseason game on Thursday against the Detroit Lions. Unless he is injured or has an incredibly poor game against the Lions http://www.thebrownsfootballauthentic.com/seth-devalve-jersey-authentic , put Ratley down for the fifth spot. That leaves one roster position up for grabs. At the outset of training camp it appeared that veteran Jeff Janis would make the team. He was brought to Cleveland in free agency after spending four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, playing primarily on special teams. The link to Green Bay, where general manager John Dorsey and front office mates Alonzo Highsmith and Eliot Wolf all worked, would seem to favor Janis, but he hasn’t done much in the passing game so far and his play on special teams has been erratic at best. That could open the door for Derrick Willies, an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech. Willies has the size — 6-foot-4 and 207 pounds — that coaches like, and he has been a vocal target of offensive coordinator Todd Haley Authentic Chris Hubbard Jersey , which could indicate that Haley sees something in Willies worth working with. The final preseason game can be a difficult one to watch as the majority of a team’s top players do not play. But with the Browns still finalizing the back end of the roster, there will be a few players at the wide receiver position worth keeping an eye on at Ford Field. Cleveland Browns:“Baker Mayfield hasn’t lost confidence in Cleveland Browns teammates despite drops in Oakland” (WKYC) - “Mayfield accepted responsibility for the missed opportunities and is doing what he can to help turn those drops into completions.”“Damarious Randall playing through pain and feeling like ‘we’re supposed to be 4-0’” (ABJ) - “Although he’s been playing well while dealing with a badly bruised heel suffered Sept. 16 in a 21-18 loss to the New Orleans Saints, the injury has made a difference.”“Tyrod Taylor: There’s nothing to be angry about” (PFT) - “Tyrod Taylor‘s run as the Browns starting quarterback came to an end in Week Three when he left the team’s game against the Jets to be evaluated for a head injury.”“Carlos Hyde remains Browns ‘workhorse’ but expect more carries for Nick Chubb” (Browns.com) - “Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley said he’ll give the youngster more opportunities as the team’s offense continues coming into form.”“Jabrill Peppers clarifies comment about ‘wishy-washy Browns fans” (ESPN) - “Peppers spoke in the context of the Browns struggling to win. They started 1-2-1, lost a game in Oakland when they scored 42 points and are 2-33-1 since the 2016 season.”NFL:“Injuries: Packers’ top three receivers remain sidelined” (NFL.com) - “Davante Adams is working with the rehab group on Thursday, coach Mike McCarthy said. The No. 1 receiver left Wednesday’s practice with a calf injury.”“Six Reasons for the NFL’s Early Offensive Explosion” (MMQB) - “When Jared Goff’s plant foot hit grass at the bottom of his drop with 1:30 left in the first half last Thursday, there were eight Viking defenders within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage.”“Richard Sherman: Rule tweaks helping average QBs put up HOF numbers” (ESPN) - “our weeks into the season, NFL teams are on a record-setting pace in a number of major offensive categories Womens Jabrill Peppers Jersey , including points scored, touchdowns, passing yards...”“Steelers O-line welcomes Le’Veon Bell but knows there are bigger issues to address before he returns” (CBS) - “We wouldn’t say it’s all love among the Steelers offensive linemen now that it appears Le’Veon Bell will rejoin the team before Week 8...” Custom New England Patriots Jerseys

A look at what’s happening around the majors Wednesday:

NATIONAL DECLINE

The Nationals could use a spark before the July 4 fireworks go off in D.C. Washington is at risk of falling below .500 for the first time since May 2 as it continues a series against Boston at 11 a.m. EDT. The Red Sox thumped the Nationals 11-4 on Tuesday Markus Wheaton Color Rush Jersey , giving Washington its fourth straight loss and 16th in 21 games to fall to 42-42. That slide has the preseason NL East favorites chasing the Braves and Phillies in the division. Erick Fedde (1-3, 6.00) tries to stop Washington’s skid against Boston left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (9-3, 4.11).

THE SHO GOES ON

Shohei Ohtani is back from the disabled list, albeit without full use of his electric right arm. The Japanese two-way sensation has been cleared to hit and was in the Angels’ lineup as a designated hitter Tuesday night, but he won’t be pitching anytime soon due to a Grade 2 sprain of his ulnar collateral ligament suffered more than three weeks ago. Ohtani has received stem cell therapy and a platelet-rich plasma injection on his right elbow, and it’s unclear if he’ll be able to return to the mound this year. For now, Los Angeles welcomes him as a hitter. He entered Tuesday batting .289 with a .907 OPS and six homers in 114 at-bats.

ROTATION RESET

Gerrit Cole (9-2) will pitch on regular rest for the Astros after a slight tweak to their rotation. Lance McCullers Jr. was initially scheduled to start at Texas, but Cole will pitch instead. Justin Verlander (9-4) will follow Thursday at home against the White Sox and McCullers goes Friday. Manager A.J. Hinch said the switch keeps Cole and Verlander pitching every fifth day, and provides extra rest for McCullers (9-3) and Charlie Morton (10-2). The reset rotation means likely All-Star selection Verlander is scheduled for the final game before the break. ”This is always going to be the priority,” said Hinch, the All-Star manager who then won’t have Verlander available to pitch for the AL team on July 17 in Washington D.C.

BAUER POWER

Trevor Bauer tries to carry over an outstanding June when the Indians play at Kansas City. Bauer (7-6, 2.45) was 3-3 with a 2.18 ERA last month, striking out 62 batters in 41 1/3 innings. He gets probably his easiest test of the year against the Royals, who scored a major league-low 58 runs in June – the second-lowest output was Tampa Bay at 87.

NEW YORK — Last season, New York Yankees right-hander Luis Severino credited things such as getting tips from Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez as a reason why everything came together after a difficult experience in 2016.

This year, Seattle Mariners left-hander James Paxton is joining Severino among the elite pitchers in the American League Avonte Maddox Color Rush Jersey , and he credits improved conditioning to go along with an aggressive mindset in attacking hitters.

Paxton and Severino will oppose each other Thursday afternoon at Yankee Stadium when the Mariners and Yankees conclude their three-game series.

The Yankees are in position to get the sweep after rallying from five runs down and recording a 7-5 win on Wednesday on Giancarlo Stanton’s two-run homer in the ninth inning off Ryan Cook. The Yankees are 16-4 in their last 20 games and are going for their first home sweep of Seattle since May 23-25, 2008.

Seattle is on its second three-game losing streak after blowing its first five-run lead this season. Despite their worst collapse of the season, the Mariners are 13-6 in their last 19 games and 32-17 in their last 49 games.

Paxton heads into his first career start against the Yankees with a 6-1 record and a 3.44 ERA. After going 18-15 in his first 50 starts since making his debut in 2013, Paxton is 18-7 in his last 39, a stretch that includes a 99-pitch no-hitter last month in Toronto and six of his eight career double-digit strikeout games.

Last season, Paxton was 12-5 with a 2.98 ERA but only made 24 starts due to two stints on the disabled list with a strained left forearm and a strained left pectoral muscle. After five DL stints within the first five years of his career, Paxton refined his conditioning with a program to keep everything working. He described the program in detail while referring to the muscle activation technique.

“You need everything to be firing together at the right time and have all your muscles working together in order for them to be optimal strength and stamina,” Paxton said. “So, that’s what I did this offseason and I continue to work with those guys during the season to allow myself to stay healthy.”

Paxton enters his 90th career start with 115 strikeouts this year, 39 away from his total last season and sixth in the American League.

Paxton said the strikeouts are coming more often because of aggressiveness — resulting in numbers such as a .216 opposing batting average with runners on base, a .194 average with runners in scoring position and a .178 mark when getting ahead of a hitter 0-1.

“I think I’ve gotten more aggressive in the zone and stuff,” he said. I’m not picking around the corners as much. I tried to be a little too perfect I think in the past, got myself in bad counts, allowing guys to cheat on fastballs. I think when I get ahead of guys, it gives me more options, makes them think about more pitches I can throw and gets them off my stuff a little bit.”

Since the no-hitter on May 8 in Toronto Josh Sweat Color Rush Jersey , Paxton is 4-0 with a 3.48 ERA in his last seven starts, a number inflated due to his last start.

Paxton is coming off his shortest start of the season when he allowed five earned runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings Friday against the Boston Red Sox in an eventual 7-6 win.

“He’s matured a ton,” Seattle manager Scott Servais said. “He knows how important he is for our team and how important it is for him to stay healthy.

“He’s changed a lot of his offseason workouts, his work in between starts, understanding to be able to take the ball every fifth day means so much to our team. He’s really put a priority on that, probably more so than actual pitch sequencing or pitch development.”

As for Severino, he can join Cleveland’s Corey Kluber as the second 11-game winner in the majors with a victory Thursday.

He is 10-2 with a 2.09 ERA after allowing three hits in eight scoreless innings in Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. It was the fourth time he pitched into the eighth inning and fourth scoreless start.

“Obviously anytime he goes, I feel great about it,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s a great pitcher. He’s clearly establishing himself as one of the best in the game.”

Severino was 14-6 with a 2.98 ERA last season after Martinez suggested some mechanical tweaks and encouraged him to include his changeup more frequently. Martinez’s advice took place after Severino finished 3-8 with a 5.83 ERA in 22 appearances in a 2016 campaign that featured a triceps injury and a demotion to the minors.

It has resulted in Severino being able to maintain velocity throughout games, such as Saturday when 23 of his 102 pitches were clocked at 99 mph or higher.

“I’ve played with him all the way through the minor leagues,” Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge said. “This is what I expect out of Sevy. Go out there and just dominate.”

The right-hander is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in two career starts against Seattle. He pitched seven scoreless innings in a 4-1 win at Seattle on July 20, 2017, and allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings in a 7-1 home loss on April 15, 2016.

New York left fielder Brett Gardner missed his third straight game Wednesday with a swollen right knee and is day-to-day. If Gardner does not play, Aaron Hicks will likely bat leadoff.

With closer Arodys Vizcaino on the disabled list Mason Rudolph Color Rush Jersey , the Braves found strong relief elsewhere.

Four relievers combined to allow one hit in four scoreless innings, giving Atlanta’s bullpen an important lift as the Braves beat Baltimore 7-3 on Sunday for their first win over the Orioles in six years.

Freddie Freeman’s two-run single in the first inning gave Atlanta the lead and Dansby Swanson added a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the eighth .

Left-hander A.J. Minter pitched a perfect ninth following scoreless innings from Shane Carle, Jesse Biddle and Dan Winkler in relief of Brandon McCarthy. Vizcaino was placed on the DL before the game with right shoulder inflammation.

”My job was to kind of help out Vizzy today, give him some rest,” Minter said.

The bullpen’s strong showing was especially important after Braves relievers allowed nine runs and 10 hits on Friday night with Vizcaino unavailable.

”Those guys in the bullpen stepped up big,” said Braves manager Brian Snitker. ”… They couldn’t have done any better.”

Baltimore won the first two games of the series and swept the last set between the teams in 2015. Atlanta ended a stretch of seven straight losses to the Orioles since 2012.

McCarthy (6-3) overcame home runs by pinch-hitter Mark Trumbo and Trey Mancini to allow three runs in five innings.

Mancini, back in the lineup after missing three starts with a stiff neck, led off the third with his 10th homer . Despite Sunday’s loss, Mancini said winning the series from the Braves was the last-place Orioles’ best showing since winning three of four at the Yankees in early April.

”This series down here felt like us again, I’d say for the first time really since the New York series early in the year in the Bronx Chukwuma Okorafor Color Rush Jersey ,” Mancini said.

Trumbo hit a two-run homer beyond the reach of center fielder Ender Inciarte in the fifth. Trumbo has five homers in his last seven games.

Charlie Culberson doubled in two runs and Nick Markakis also had a run-scoring double in the third as Atlanta took a 5-1 lead. Swanson’s homer off Brad Brach landed inside the left-field foul pole.

The Braves took a 2-0 lead before David Hess (2-4) recorded an out. Hess walked Enter Inciarte, who moved to third on Ozzie Albies‘ double. Both scored on Freeman’s single to left field.

Hess gave up five runs on seven hits and two walks in four innings – his third straight start allowing five runs.

Albies had three hits, giving him nine for the series.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Orioles: Trumbo did not start due to a sore right knee, a recurrence of a problem that surfaced in May. Trumbo is expected to be back in the lineup on Monday.

Braves: Vizcaino hadn’t appeared in a game since June 17 against the Mets. … Tyler Flowers remained in the game after being hit on his helmet with a pitch from Mike Wright Jr. in the fifth.

SUNNY

McCarthy was well-rested for a day game. Those were prime conditions for success for the 34-year-old right-hander.

McCarthy began the day 2-0 with a 2.82 ERA in four day games this season, compared to a 5.79 ERA in 10 night starts. He was making his first start since June 15, and he was 2-0 with a 2.76 ERA in his previous three starts with at least six days rest.

ACUNA UPDATE

OF Ronald Acuna Jr. (left knee sprain) likely will spend at least one more day on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett. Snitker said the Braves are ”still kind of evaluating” Acuna to ”make sure he’s healed. He feels he is.” Acuna has been on the DL four weeks, since May 28.

ROSTER MOVES

The Braves selected the contract of right-hander Evan Phillips from Triple-A Gwinnett, where he was 4-4 with a 2.31 ERA in 26 games, all in relief. INF Phil Gosselin was designated for assignment to create a spot for Phillips on the 40-man roster.

UP NEXT

Orioles: RHP Andrew Cashner (2-7, 4.72) will try to end a streak of three straight losing decisions when Baltimore returns home to face Seattle on Monday night.

Braves: RHP Mike Foltynewicz (right triceps tightness) is expected to come off the DL to start Monday night’s opening game of a three-game series against the Reds.

Facing a run of starting pitching that included two-time Cy Young winner Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco Weston Richburg Color Rush Jersey , Chris Sale and David Price, the Minnesota Twins could have seen their fledgling playoff hopes fade toward another long summer.

Instead, Minnesota’s been rejuvenated by beating some of the best pitching in the American League.

Robbie Grossman and Max Kepler homered to back an effective start by Lance Lynn as the Twins beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 on Wednesday night.

Grossman led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run and Kepler added a two-run shot off Boston starter David Price (8-5). Brian Dozier added a pair of doubles to help Minnesota win for the fourth time in five games.

The Twins beat Kluber and Carrasco in taking two of three games at Cleveland before returning home and winning the first two games against the Red Sox with Sale and Price starting.

”Yeah, after the game when you acknowledge who’s on the mound,” Kepler said when asked if Minnesota can take something away from beating the recent competition. ”I feel like we go into games and we’re kind of blind to who’s on the mound and we grind together, which is awesome about this team.”

Lynn (5-5) again struggled with command, issuing five walks, but he surrendered just one unearned run and three hits in five innings.

Four relievers combined for four scoreless innings, retiring 12 of the final 13 batters, with Fernando Rodney securing his 16th save in 19 chances.

”If you can find a way to battle every at-bat, wait for something to break Youth Braden Smith Jersey , try to build pitch-count when you can, and if you’re holding them down as our starting pitching has been doing, you know you’ve got a chance late,” Twins manager Paul Molitor said.

The Red Sox were 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position and are 2 for 22 in the first two games of the series. They’ve stranded 18 baserunners in the two games and lost for the fourth time in five games.

”Pitching-wise, we’ve been great,” Boston manager Alex Cora said. ”I’ll take that. If we keep throwing the ball the way we’ve been throwing we’re going to win a lot of ballgames. We know the offense, you know how it is.”

Lynn has had an uncharacteristic wild season in his first year with the Twins. He walked at least five batters for the fifth time in 14 starts. But the veteran right-hander has limited the damage and allowed less than three runs in five of his last six starts.

”Command was really not there,” Lynn said. ”But I was able to make pitches with runners in scoring position and not give up a bunch of runs. With this offense we have, you keep them to one run, we’re going to win the games more times than not.”

Boston’s lone run scored in the second as Lynn couldn’t catch first baseman Logan Morrison’s high throw to first for the final out of the inning, allowing Mitch Moreland to score from second base on an error charged to Morrison.

”We’ve been through stuff like this in the past Youth Kemoko Turay Jersey , even this year early on,” Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts said of the offense. ”The pitching has been doing great. It’s up to us now to come through.”

PAYING THE PRICE

Price was hurt by the home run but allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk. He had given up just one home run in his previous five starts and seven total in 14 starts this season coming into Wednesday.

”Not so much that he could hit it like he did, but to keep it fair, that’s pretty impressive,” Price said of Kepler’s home run.

SHOWING SIGNS

Dozier had just one extra-base hit in his previous 13 games while hitting .068. His double off the left-field wall in the eighth plated Eddie Rosario.

Kepler hit his first home run in 22 games and the fifth of his eight this season against left-handed pitching. Kepler was hitting .158 over his previous 21 games with just four RBIs.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Red Sox: LHP Drew Pomeranz is getting closer to having his first throwing session since he went on the 10-day disabled list on June 5 for left biceps tendonitis. Cora said Pomeranz was dealing with soreness in his neck but has recovered.

Twins: Molitor said OF Byron Buxton’s first rehab game in Triple-A on Tuesday went well and that his left foot with the broken toe is ”in a good place and we haven’t said that for about seven weeks or so.” There is no timetable for Buxton’s return.

UP NEXT

Red Sox: RHP Rick Porcello (8-3, 3.70 ERA) will start the series and road trip finale on Thursday afternoon. Porcello pitched six innings and gave up four runs in a no-decision at Seattle in his last start.

Twins: RHP Kyle Gibson (2-4, 3.27) counters for Minnesota. Gibson has allowed five total runs over his last four starts, spanning 26 2/3 innings.

Dellin Betances stole the show from Jonathan Loaisiga with his Gary Sheffield impersonation at the plate – even as the rookie right-hander played stopper for the team with baseball’s best record.

Loaisiga took a no-hitter into the sixth inning Chargers Cheap Jerseys , Aaron Judge ripped his 20th homer and the New York Yankees snapped a three-game skid with a 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.

All of which meant the Yankees could laugh about Betances’ first career plate appearance. Batting with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth, Betances wiggled his bat like Sheffield as he took a strike from Yacksel Rios before missing on two mighty swings. That drew chuckles from his teammates in the bullpen.

”I liked to watch Gary and imitate his stance,” Betances said. ”I was trying to do some damage. I took some good hacks. I got my money’s worth.”

Betances said he hadn’t swung a bat in 12 years.

”I was hoping and praying it wouldn’t be my turn,” he said. ”I saw the ball good. Playing catch with Aroldis Chapman helped me out.”

Judge and the rest of the Yankees enjoyed watching Betances trying to make contact.

”It was fun, a pretty cool moment,” Judge said. ”I’m glad he didn’t get hurt.”

Loaisiga (2-0) didn’t allow a hit until Jorge Alfaro lined a single to right leading off the sixth. He struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings, throwing 86 pitches in his third start after jumping from Double-A to the majors.

”I felt good from the start, was aggressive and attacked the zone Dolphins Cheap Jerseys ,” Loaisiga said through a translator.

The Yankees, who were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend, haven’t lost four in a row this season and own the best record in baseball (51-25).

”We just had to forget what happened in Tampa and get back on track,” Judge said.

Making their first appearance at Citizens Bank Park since beating the Phillies in six games in the 2009 World Series, it felt like home for the Yankees. The sellout crowd of 44,136 was filled with fans cheering for the Bronx Bombers.

Philadelphia’s Vince Velasquez (5-8) allowed two runs and three hits, striking out seven in six innings. He’s given up three runs or fewer in 11 of 16 starts.

David Robertson struck out Rhys Hoskins and retired Odubel Herrera on a grounder to leave runners at second and third after replacing Loaisiga in the sixth. Hoskins didn’t immediately run to first after the ball bounced a few feet away and appeared to exchange words with a fan after walking back out of the dugout.

”He was a little frustrated in that moment,” Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said of Hoskins. ”Rhys always says and does the right thing Vikings Cheap Jerseys , supports his teammates.”

Robertson allowed Scott Kingery’s RBI single in the seventh and gave way to Betances for three outs. Chapman got the last four outs for his 23rd save in 24 tries. He entered with two runners on in the eighth and Carlos Santana flied to deep left on Chapman’s first pitch. The lefty surrendered a solo homer to Maikel Franco with two outs in the ninth.

Gleyber Torres had an RBI double in the first. Judge lined one out to left in the fifth to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a hard bouncer over drawn-in shortstop Kingery’s head for a two-run single in the eighth, extending the lead to 4-1.

I-95 RIVALRY

The Yankees improved to 14-14 against the Phillies, leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers as the only team they have a losing record (6-7) against in the regular season. New York also defeated Philadelphia in the 1950 World Series.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Yankees: All-Star C Gary Sanchez was put on the 10-day disabled list because of a Grade 1 right groin strain. Manager Aaron Boone said Sanchez could miss up to four weeks.

Phillies: Right-handed reliever Edubray Ramos was placed on the 10-day disabled list because of a right shoulder impingement.

UP NEXT

RHP Luis Severino (11-2, 2.24 ERA) goes for the Yankees and RHP Jake Arrieta (5-5, 3.42) takes the mound for the Phillies on Tuesday night. Severino has never faced Philadelphia. Arrieta is 3-1, 3.83 in seven career starts vs. New York.

New York Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka has cleared a key hurdle in his rehab program for strained right and left hamstrings, throwing 26 pitches in his first bullpen session.

Tanaka, sidelined since getting hurt June 8 while running the bases in a game Youth Sam Hubbard Jersey , threw before Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay.

”I was kind of being a little bit cautious about it,” Tanaka said through a translator. ”But it turned out that I didn’t feel anything.”

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tanaka will throw off a mound again Tuesday at New York’s spring training complex in Tampa. That lines Tanaka up to pitch in a simulated game Friday.

”Went well,” Boone said. ”Encouraging sign. It looks like he’s doing well.”

Tanaka is 7-2 with a 4.58 ERA in 13 starts.

”The arm strength is still there,” Tanaka said. ”Was able to really throw with some force on it.”

Tanaka could rejoin the Yankees, who have the majors’ best record, before the All-Star break next month.

An estimated 103.4 million people watched the Super Bowl on NBC Youth Malik Jefferson Jersey , a 7 percent drop from last year that indicates that television’s biggest event may have peaked in popularity.

The Nielsen company said it’s the smallest Super Bowl audience on television since 2009 despite the underdog Philadelphia Eagles beating the New England Patriots in a thrilling game that was close from start to finish.

Last year’s Patriots-Falcons game reached 111.3 million viewers. The all-time Super Bowl record – and record for any television event in the United States – was the 114.4 million who watched the Patriots against the Seahawks in 2015.

The NFL’s viewership has been down this year, with experts citing factors like increased injuries, some confusing rules changes and anger at players protesting police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem. Similarly, fewer people have cable than they did a few years ago, with streaming onto hand-held devices becoming more popular.

The dip was also telegraphed by a poll conducted last week by Seton Hall University, which found that 54 percent of Americans were preparing to watch the game. That’s down from the 68 percent that said the same thing two years ago, according to the poll, which wasn’t done in 2017. The poll has a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.

Despite that prediction, the poll’s director said he thought the game’s quality would lift the numbers beyond what was actually seen.

”If you turned the game on at any time to say, `I wonder what’s going on,’ or a friend texted you to say you should watch this, you’re going to watch and get hooked,” said Rick Gentile, director of the poll, also sponsored by the Sharkey Institute.

NBC said that if you add in people who followed the game online, viewership increased to 106 million. And Nielsen said it has not yet counted the number of people who watched the game outside of homes – in a bar, for instance. Some perspective: despite the decrease, Sunday’s game ranked as the 10th most-watched television even in U.S. history.

Soothing any hurt for NBC was Kantar Media’s estimate that $414 million was spent on advertising for the Super Bowl telecast. That’s second only to the $419 million spent last year Youth Mark Walton Jersey , a figure that Kantar said exceeded 2018 only because last year’s game went into overtime, meaning there was more time to sell ads.

The network was able to remind millions of people that the Winter Olympics, which will also be televised by NBC, begin on Thursday.

Justin Timberlake’s halftime show, despite tepid reviews, drew an audience of 106.6 million people, Nielsen said.

NBC’s post-game telecast of ”This is Us” was a winning choice. Nielsen said 27 million people stayed for the drama, the most-watched post-game entertainment show in six years and sharply above the 17.6 million people who watched the premiere of ”24: Legacy” on Fox last year.

And extra kibble is being handed out over at Animal Planet. The cable network’s annual ”Puppy Bowl” of cute animals, shown opposite NBC’s pregame show, reached 3.05 million people. That was the show’s biggest audience in its 14 years of existence.

Shohei Ohtani might not be able to pitch right now, but he can still hit.

At least, that’s what the Los Angeles Angels are counting on as they try to get back into the American League’s wild-card race.

The two-way Japanese sensation was activated from the disabled list prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the host Seattle Mariners. Ohtani batted sixth and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts as the Angels lost 4-1.

It was Ohtani’s first game since June 6, when he suffered a Grade 2 sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow

“Hopefully it’ll be a good spot (in the order) for him to hit,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia told MLB.com before the game. “But we’re also just trying to get him acclimated. You don’t want to put too much pressure where he’s to say, ‘I’ve got to do so much,’ because he’s hitting higher in the lineup. I think it’s a good spot for him to see some pitches.”

The Angels went 8-14 while Ohtani was out and dropped 11 games behind Seattle in the chase for the AL’s second and final wild-card berth.

Ohtani, who batted .289 with six home runs and 20 RBIs in his first 34 games of the season, was cleared to begin hitting last week. He took batting practice and faced live pitching in simulated games over the weekend.

“He’s not being rushed Cassius Marsh Color Rush Jersey ,” Scioscia said. “He had a very aggressive workout this weekend and was cleared by our medical department. He would not be playing here if he wasn’t cleared by our medical department. We’re very comfortable that he’s ready.”

When Ohtani (4-1, 3.10 ERA) will return to the mound is another question. Angels general manager Billy Eppler said last week that Ohtani would be re-evaluated in three weeks to determine whether he’d be able to pitch again this season.

The Angels didn’t announce right-hander Garrett Richards (4-4, 3.42 ERA) as Wednesday afternoon’s starter until after Tuesday’s defeat. Richards is 6-4 with a 3.05 ERA in 20 career appearances against the Mariners, including 12 starts.

Richards has already faced Seattle twice at Safeco Field this season. He beat the Mariners 5-0 on May 4, allowing four hits in 6 2/3 innings with one walk and eight strikeouts. On June 13, he lasted just two innings in an 8-6 loss, giving up two runs on four hits.

Right-hander Mike Leake (8-4, 4.01 ERA), who has won five of his past six decisions, is scheduled to start for Seattle. He’s 3-1 with a 2.49 ERA in four career starts against the Angels. He suffered the loss in the 5-0 defeat on May 4, allowing three runs on seven hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings. But he beat Los Angeles 6-3 on June 12, allowing one run on four hits in six innings.

The Mariners have won a season-high eight straight games.

“It’s a real good run we’re on, coming off a sketchy run on the East Coast (losing five of six to the New York Yankees and Boston),” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “The guys bounced back … it’s not always pretty, but we certainly compete very well.”

TORONTO — Toronto Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ will take the mound against Luis Severino on Saturday in a repeat of the Opening Day matchup won by the New York Yankees.

With the July 31 deadline for trades without waivers looking Youth Frank Ragnow Jersey , Happ is considered a prime candidate to be dealt and the Yankees would be one of the interested teams, according to speculation.

The possibility of Severino (13-2, 1.98 ERA) and Happ (10-4, 4.03) soon becoming teammates adds another intriguing dimension to their matchup in the second game of a three-game series at the Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays started the series with a 6-2 victory Friday night with Justin Smoak capping a five-run second inning with a three-run homer.

The Yankees (56-29) are 7-4 against the Blue Jays (41-46) in the season series so far, including a 4-3 record at the Rogers Centre as they complete their third and final series of the season there this weekend.

The win Friday ended the Blue Jays’ four-game losing streak against the Yankees.

Severino is an obvious choice for the All-Star Game to be played at Washington’s Nationals Park on July 17.

Happ is one of the few Blue Jays with a legitimate chance to go to the game.

Severino will be a leading candidate to win the American League Cy Young Award if he continues his current pace. He leads the majors in wins and is second in ERA.

The 24-year-old enters Saturday with a scoreless streak of 13 2/3 innings. He has allowed three runs or fewer in 15 straight starts, the longest such streak by a Yankees pitcher since Ron Guidry had a 15-game streak April 8-June 22, 1978. The only longer streak by a Yankee is 20 set by Russ Ford during the 1910 and 1911 seasons.

“I always feel great when Sevy’s on the mound,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “The record in a lot of ways speaks for itself. The ability to get deep into games. He’s been really good against the elite competition, it seems like, as well.

“He’s putting himself in that conversation as one of the best in the game. There’s no doubt about it.”

Severino is 2-3 with a 4.12 ERA in nine career games (eight starts) against the Blue Jays and 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA in two starts against them this season. In five career starts at the Rogers Centre, he is 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA.

Happ had his worst start of the season Sunday when he allowed seven runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 9-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

He did not allow a run until the fifth when Nicholas Castellanos did most of the damage with a grand slam.

“I felt like I was a pitch away from getting out of it,” Happ said after the game. “Again, I look at the hard-hit balls and there was two or three today. I didn’t feel like I was in the middle of the zone getting hurt today, but it is what it is. It’s not a pretty outing.”

His only start against the Yankees this season was a loss on Opening Day Youth Jaire Alexander Jersey , March 29, when he allowed three runs (two earned) in 4 2/3 innings as Severino picked up the win. In 17 career starts against the Yankees, he is 8-3 with a 3.53 ERA.

The Yankees have lost five of their past seven road games and are 23-16 in away games this season. They are 7-8 when visiting American League East cities this season.

The Blue Jays are 13-20 against AL East teams. They are 4-3 on their homestand and are 23-22 at home for the season.

Mike Trout has no interest in merely taking his cuts at the plate, walking back to the dugout and waiting patiently for his next at-bat.

The two-time AL MVP wants to be part of the action in the field, too, and his zest for being a two-way player is evident by his numbers when doing so.

Trout celebrated his return to center field Friday night with a solo home run and an impressive catch, and the Los Angeles Angels snapped a six-game skid by beating the floundering Baltimore Orioles 7-1.

Back in the outfield after an ineffective nine-game stretch as a designated hitter, Trout hit his 24th home run in the first inning off David Hess (2-5) to spark the Angels to their first win in a week. Trout reached base three times and ran down a liner in the gap to rob Danny Valencia of a potential fourth-inning double.

”I like being out there,” Trout said. ”It keeps me in the game.”

Forced to play DH because of a sprained right index finger, Trout went 6 for 28 (.214) with 11 strikeouts and no homers.

”He certainly is not acclimated to the DH role, and you wouldn’t expect an everyday player to be,” manager Mike Scioscia said. ”It grounds on you.”

Martin Maldonado also homered for Los Angeles, Andrelton Simmons had four hits and Felix Pena (1-0) allowed five hits over 5 1/3 shutout innings.

Like the Mariners before them, the Angels found facing the Orioles to be the cure for an extended slump. Earlier this week Youth Josh Jackson Jersey , Seattle notched a four-game sweep at Camden Yards after coming to town with six losses in seven games.

The Angels were reeling from a three-game sweep in Boston, where they were outscored 22-9, before breezing past the awful Orioles in the opener of a three-game series.

”Mike got us on the board, then we kept pecking away,” Scioscia said. ”It starts with pitching. You keep putting up those zeros and let your offense get going.”

Los Angeles led 3-0 before pulling away with a three-run sixth. Simmons started the uprising with a double and Kole Calhoun contributed a sacrifice fly.

Baltimore owns the worst record in the majors (23-58), and is playing at a pace to lose 116 games. The Orioles have dropped 16 of 17 at home and are 0-14 against the AL West.

”It’s the story again, we scored one run and nothing through eight innings,” manager Buck Showalter said. ”You’re not going to win that way.”

Hess, a rookie right-hander, has put his spot in the rotation in jeopardy by compiling a 10.70 ERA over his last four starts.

He’s really got to command the fastball,” Showalter said. ”If it doesn’t work out there, there’s potential for another role. But we’re looking for starters and he’s showed he can do it.”

TRIBUTE TO VICTIMS

The Orioles placed five lilies at the press box seat reserved for The Capital Gazette. Five employees of the newspaper were shot and killed Thursday, including long-time sports writer John McNamara, who was shifted to the news side a few years ago but was still an occasional visitor to the press box. The team also held a moment of silence before the game in honor of all five victims.

TAKE THAT

Trout’s home run gave him 1 Youth Taven Bryan Jersey ,132 hits for his career, one more than Scioscia compiled in his 1,441 games.

Nicked in the first inning Youth Keke Coutee Jersey , Aaron Nola figured he’d be fine if could find his form.

He did, and the Philadelphia Phillies took advantage.

Maikel Franco went 4 for 4, Carlos Santana homered and the Phillies defeated the Washington Nationals 5-3 on Saturday.

”The way (we’ve) been swinging lately, I just felt like if I kept putting up zeros and battling out there they were going to come through and score some more runs,” Nola said.

With the Phillies leading 3-2 in the eighth, Santana sent a drive into the Philadelphia bullpen in left-center field off Kelvin Herrera for his 13th homer of the season and second in two games. Franco later added an RBI single.

Philadelphia’s Odubel Herrera, who had homered in five straight games, went 0 for 4.

The Phillies have won five of six while the Nationals have lost three of four, scoring a total of nine runs. Anthony Rendon homered for Washington.

”Look, I’ve got all the confidence in the world we’re going to start hitting,” manager Dave Martinez said. ”We’ll start scoring some runs. Right now the bullpen is a little beat up. We’ve got to get them going again.”

Nola (9-2) stiffened after giving up two runs in the first inning. He didn’t allow a hit after the second and left following the sixth. He also hit an RBI single.

Seranthony Dominguez worked the ninth for his fourth save.

Erick Fedde (0-3) allowed three runs on eight hits in six-plus innings.

”They have a lot of patient hitters,” Fedde said. ”I think that’s what makes it tough. Guys aren’t swinging at bunch of junk, so you have to attack them.”

With the score 2-all, Franco doubled leading off the seventh and moved to third on a groundout. Pinch-hitter Jesmuel Valentin lifted a fly to right Youth Quenton Nelson Jersey , Franco tagged and just beat Adam Eaton’s throw home with the safe call surviving a replay challenge.

”That was just a tremendous all-around baseball game,” Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said of Franco’s day.

Daniel Murphy’s two-run single in the first inning gave Washington the early lead, but the Phillies strung together four two-out singles – the last by Nola – in the second to tie it.

BUNTER’S CHANCE

For the second consecutive game, Harper tried to beat the shift with a first-inning bunt. Friday night, he bunted foul before striking out and Saturday he was thrown out by Nola.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Phillies: RHP Jerad Eickhoff (right lat strain) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session and will likely throw another session in a few days.

Nationals: 1B Ryan Zimmerman (right oblique strain) is expected to go on a rehabilitation assignment within the next week, according to Martinez. … RHP Jeremy Hellickson (right hamstring strain) will pitch Sunday for Class A Potomac and is expected to rejoin the rotation after the one rehab start. … RH reliever Brandon Kintzler (right foreman flexor strain) will also pitch at Potomac on Sunday.

Phillies: RHP Nick Pivetta (4-6, 4.08), acquired from Washington in the trade for Jonathan Papelbon, pitches the finale. He’s 0-2 with an 11.81 ERA in three starts against the Nationals.

Nationals: RHP Jefry Rodriguez (0-0, 4.66) makes his second big league start.

The Texas Rangers welcomed back shortstop Elvis Andrus to their lineup, while the Kansas City Royals said goodbye to closer Kelvin Herrera.

Manager Jeff Banister faces a juggling act with getting all his infielders sufficient playing time with Andrus off the disabled list as the Rangers continue a three-game series with the Royals Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium.

Royals manager Ned Yost faces a problem of who will close games with Herrera dealt to the Washington Nationals for three minor league prospects third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez, outfielder Blake Perkins and 17-year-old Dominican right-hander Yohanse Morel.

Andrus was activated Monday after missing 59 games with a fractured right elbow after being hit by a pitch on April 11.

Banister said Andrus will start all three games against the Royals. He went 0-for-3, walked twice and scored a run in his first game back as Texas opened the series with a 6-3 victory

Jurickson Profar, who started 56 games at shortstop while Andrus was on the disabled list Youth Mike Hughes Jersey , started at second in the series opener, will play third base Tuesday and DH Wednesday.

Banister met with Andrus. Profar, Rougned Odor and Adrian Beltre Monday with a goal to play all four in about five games a week.

“It’s going to be really hard,” Banister said of rearranging the playing time to keep all four sharp and healthy. “Profar has made a case to be one of the everyday players. And everything we’ve challenged (Odor) to do, he’s progressively gotten better. He’s been a significant player on this team and will continue to be one.”

Beltre, who belted a three-run homer Monday, will probably be the designated hitter more than he has in the past.

Andrus had never been on the disabled list before this season.

“A guy that has played 10 consecutive years you don’t replace,” Banister said. “You miss everything he does and what he was able to do. He was our three-hole hitter and one of the better centerpieces of the offense. He did a lot of things for us offensively. Obviously, he was one of the leaders with Beltre on defense.”

Herrera was 14 for 16 in save situations this season. Herrera, Greg Holland and Wade Davis were part of Royals’ feared bullpens that helped them win the 2015 World Series and the 2014 American League championship. Herrera can be a free agent after the season and the Nationals needed bullpen help.

“Without him, there is no way we can ever make it to the World Series, win a World Series,” Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. “He’s simply family. He knows he has relationships here that are special.”

The Rangers won their third straight and will seek a season high fourth straight win as Cole Hamels starts against Jason Hammel.

Hamels is 3-6 with a 3.69 ERA in 14 starts this season. The Rangers are 4-10 in his starts this season. He is 3-2 with a 3.51 ERA in six career starts against Kansas City.

Hammel is 0-4 with a 4.26 ERA in six home starts this season and winless in his past eight home starts.

Hammel is 2-3 with a 4.07 ERA in nine career outings against the Rangers. He tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings on May 27 to win at Texas. The losing pitcher was Hamels.

DALLAS (AP) – The NBA is reviewing 2011 allegations of sexual assault against Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and the investigation that led to a decision by prosecutors not to pursue the case.

At heart, Ernie Barnes the professional football player was always Ernie Barnes the artist.

His teammates on the San Diego Chargers nicknamed him ”Big Rembrandt” because he was always scribbling on pieces of paper.

He ended up painting vivid and highly acclaimed images from the playing field and from African-American life. Marvin Gaye used a version of it for an album cover, and a print of it appeared in the closing credits of the sitcom ”Good Times.”

Now, an exhibit has opened in his home state titled “The North Carolina Roots of Artist Ernie Barnes.” The exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of History includes 38 paintings by Barnes, many unseen by the public until now, along with several pieces of memorabilia.

It’s the first exhibit of Barnes’ artwork in 11 years, and the first since he died at age 70 in 2009 in Los Angeles. It continues through March 3.

His sports connections led to his first exhibit through the support of New York Jets owner Sonny Werblin. And Barnes credited football with helping him develop the elongation technique for which he’s known.

An art instructor told him ”to pay attention to what my body felt like in movement,” Barnes once said. ”And when I did that, it was an elongated feeling. … I hate to think, had I not played sports, what my work would look like.”

He also spoke of how the ”dehumanization” of professional football played out in his art. ”I painted until I exhausted the hate Youth Mike White Jersey ,” he said, according to comments provided by his estate.

In a phone interview, Vincent said that he and his wife ”didn’t classify it as black art. He happens to be African-American, but it’s not black art. It’s art.”

Below is what Seth had to say about his Cardinals. For the first time in weeks, it feels like the Arizona Cardinals have a shot. No, not only because they are playing a bad San Francisco team, no offense, but because change usually begets a boost for a team.It likely won’t change much on the overall season, but it will provide a temporary boost that helps get the Arizona Cardinals a win or two.Two reasons the Cardinals win in Week 8Mike McCoy is goneMcCoy has been one of the worst coaches in the NFL for the last two years, that’s why he’s been fired three times since the end of the 2016 season. Enter Byron Leftwich, who studied for years as a quarterback, offensive assistant and finally quarterbacks coach under Bruce Arians. Leftwich has a fantastic rapport with Josh Rosen, and he’ll bring back some of the concepts of the Bruce Arians offense, likely the rushing game and using David Johnson in a multitude of ways. He’ll also incorporate some of the concepts that Josh Rosen likes to use from college and even the Mike McCoy offense. The thing that Leftwich has vowed to do is something McCoy hasn’t done in his last two stops and why he has not coached a full season the last two years.Turnover city for the defenseThe Cardinals rode the right arm of C.J. Beathard to a win in the last matchup, and they could do it again. Beathard is a nice backup quarterback, but there’s a reason he’s a backup. The Arizona Cardinals since the preseason have feasted on below average starting quarterbacks. They’ll do it again on Sunday, because they have the talent to beat backups. I don’t know if that’s saying much, but it is something. Two reasons the Cardinals lose in Week 8Not enough timeLeftwich has been at the controls for 10 days鈥?it would not surprise if that’s not enough time to get the McCoy stench off. Let’s be completely honest, if Matt Breida doesn’t get hurt in their first matchup, it’s likely the 49ers win that first game. Why? The Arizona Cardinals offense is abysmal. Now Cheap Jimmy Garoppolo Jersey , it may not be abysmal, but it may not be enough in sync to fix the problems, overcome the bad offensive line and get on track in just 10 days.Giving up alreadyEveryone knows that Patrick Peterson requested a trade this week. What if he’s saying all the right things but not feeling it? What if he’s already looking beyond his time in the desert? If he’s doing it, could other players? That’s what the biggest question the Cardinals will have to answer. They already are the worst rushing defense in the NFL, and if Breida is healthy, the 49ers will have a great chance to gash them in the run game. If the 49ers can take the ball out of Beathard’s hands, it’ll be a win immediately for the 49ers. That could give the Cardinals problems and keep the season going in the wrong direction. The NFL does not care about player health. They institute new rules they claim are for health and safety, they put money into research on equipment changes, and they have talked a good game after various lawsuits. But at the end of the day, the NFL does not really care about player health insomuch as if affecting their bottom line. The San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders square off this week on Thursday Night Football, which means they get to be the weekly spotlight example of why the NFL does not care about player health. The two teams played on Sunday, and will play four days later following three days of rest. The NFL has repeatedly talked about TNF injury reports are not any worse than those of Sunday and Monday games. However, the NFL regularly ignores issues related to bodies recovering from a football game. Most any player will tell you that when completely healthy it takes them three or four days to really feel absolutely right after a football game. That’s not even factoring in the fact that most players are at least a little banged up midway through the season — even if they do not appear on the injury report.TNF teams can technically practice Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in preparation for the game. However, most give players a rest day on Monday, and only hold a single full practice on Tuesday.49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan met with the media on Monday Youth Weston Richburg Jersey , and he said the players are getting Monday off to begin resting up their bodies. Injured players will come in for treatment, but the rest of the team will not report to the facility until Tuesday morning. The NFL has shown no serious movement to make a change to TNF. They could remove it entirely, but owners are not going to give up the kind of money it makes them. The FOX deal is reportedly worth $660 million per year, while the Amazon streaming deal is reportedly worth up to $65 million this year.Since we know NFL owners will not give up that kind of money, the other option is to either set it up so teams play on TNF coming off their bye week, or add a second bye week to stretch out the schedule. There has been some mention of that for a potential expansion to an 18-game schedule, but nothing has come of it. Ideally, the NFL would add the second bye week and keep the schedule at 16 games.Whatever the case, the 49ers and Raiders have to play this game, and there’s nothing they can do about it. The two teams released their Monday practice participation reports, and both are estimated. Teams are required to release three practice reports each week, and when they don’t practice, it is estimated based on if they had actually practiced. Here are the full participation reports for the first day of “practice.”49ers Monday practice participation reportDNP: QB C.J. Lynch: 49ers have called Browns about Josh Gordon Fooch’s
update: General manager John Lynch told 49ers beat writers the team has inquired about Josh Gordon and is doing their due diligence on him. The Browns announced plans to release Gordon on Monday Youth Customized San Francisco 49ers Jerseys , and have until 1 p.m. PT Monday to make it official. That gives the 49ers up to 24 hours to figure out their options. The Cleveland Browns announced on Saturday that they plan to release wide receiver Josh Gordon on Monday, likely with the hopes of generating trade interest before then. “A few teams” have inquired with the Browns, per Pro Football Talk, but there is no word on who they are. However, Gordon would be interested in playing for the San Francisco 49ers or Dallas Cowboys, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport. If the Browns get even a conditional late round pick, that might be enough to unload Gordon before they release him. They control his rights for now, but because he is a vested veteran, he would not have to go through waivers if released. Thus, if released www.49ersauthorizedshops.com , he would have his choice of any of the other teams.Of course, just because Gordon is interested in a given team does not mean it will happen. It takes two to get a deal done, and we don’t know yet if the 49ers have interest in bringing Gordon over. Kyle Shanahan was Cleveland’s offensive coordinator in 2014 — a season in which Gordon was suspended the first ten games, he 24 passes for 303 yards in five games, and then was suspended the final game for violating a team rule.Gordon’s peak saw him catch 87 passes for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013. In the five years since then, he’s played in 11 total games, including none in 2015 and 2016. He has natural talent, but with that much missed time, it’s safe to say he’s probably not the receiver he was in 2013.That’s not to say he isn’t an upgrade for a lot of teams San Francisco 49ers Womens T-Shirt , but the 49ers could decide there are just too many questions and they want to see what their own group can do. Marquise Goodwin is out with a thigh bruise, but Dante Pettis is getting the opportunity in his place. Given how much time Gordon has missed over the past five years, it’s hard to say whether or not he’s an upgrade. My guess is he would be a solid addition from a pure talent perspective, but even if that’s the case, nobody knows if he will stay on the field. Any team considering trading for or signing him will need to factor that into the equation. The San Francisco 49ers have announced Nick Mullens will be getting his second start against the New York Giants after a near perfect day last Thursday against the Oakland Raiders. If anything, Mullens should be prepared. Not just for the game, or the defense he faces, or the offense he’ll run, but for his coach’s tendencies throughout the game. The Athletic’s David Lombardi dropped this today on Twitter and I found myself laughing for a good few minutes. I really wonder what Mullens is saying to Shanahan during the play-call. I’m sure while Shanahan is going off those convoluted names for a simple run through the tackles, Mullens is on his tip toes like a kid wanting to pay for his ice cream sundae for the first time San Francisco 49ers Hats , or a kid jumping out of the car at Disneyland with his parents limping behind. Of course as the night goes on I can only visualize Mullens in the huddle making the talking hand gesture and looking at the team saying “Blah, blah, blah.”Mullens is definitely one of those cats who wants to play and has visualized himself out on the field in a loud game. 49ers tight end George Kittle commented on how into it Mullens can get at his press conference last Thursday: All Mullens wanted to do was call the play. I keep thinking of Shanahan as the adult who tells the kid “waiiiiit...waiiiiiiit” for no reason other than to just make everyone wait another two seconds. In any case, now that this story is out, I’m wondering what Shanahan will have to say about this at practice. I do think a question about this is bound to come up, and I’m sure Shanahan will have a good answer for it.

Giants vs. Saints: Snaps and stats from the Giants’ home loss
The New York Giants collected their third loss of the 2018 season on sunday against the New Orleans Saints. It seemed as though the Giants had turned a corner against the Houston Texans and were moving in the direction of competing with the rest of the NFL. Instead Youth Patrick Omameh Jersey , the game had a sickeningly familiar feel to it, with the offense seeming like an ineffective exercise in futility. In many ways, this game reminded of the Giants’ week two loss to the Dallas Cowboys, particularly on offense. But how similar was it, really? Let’s take a closer look at the stats from the game and see what they have to say.OffenseQuarterbackAt first blush, Eli Manning had an efficient day against a poor Saints defense. He completed 31 of 41 attempts, good for a completion rate of 75.6 percent, for 255 yards and a touchdown. This marks the third time this season he has completed at least three quarters of his passes and thrown a touchdown pass. However, a closer look at the stats reveal that the Giants were playing “keep away” with their passing game, rather than actively trying to attack a defense which had given up just over 34 points per game and the most passing yards in the NFL through the first three weeks. Per Next Gen Stats, Manning was tied for the third fewest intended air yards among quarterbacks Sunday, with averaging just 6.1 yards through the air. His average completion was the shortest in the NFL, at just 3.6 yards per completion. Finally, Manning also threw the ball the second furthest from the first-down marker, averaging 2.9 yards behind the sticks. “Short,” “quick Aldrick Rosas Jersey ,” and “safe” are the words to describe the Giants’ passing game against the Saints, but like with a similar game plan against the Dallas Cowboys, “ineffective” comes to mind. An offense featuring Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr., and Saquon Barkley simply is not built to play it safe and chip away at a defense. Offensive lineAll told, the Giants played 62 snaps on offense, and the entire offensive line of Nate Solder, Will Hernandez, John Greco, Patrick Omameh, and Chad Wheeler played all of them. It might be assumed based on Manning’s passing stats that they failed in protecting him. While saying that they ‘failed’ to protect him is a bit strong, Manning was sacked three times and each of the Saints’ top rushers came closer than league average to Manning on their average rush. However, he did have time to throw, averaging 2.66 seconds from snap to throw, which was only about two hundredths of a second less than league average. Skill positions The Giants didn’t run the ball much as the game slipped away. But even so, Barkley (54 snaps Authentic Rhett Ellison Jersey , 87 percent) only had two carries further than five yards. Given what we have seen of Barkley’s ability to pick up extra yards with a quick cut or powering through an arm tackle, the line did not block for many of the rookie’s yards. Considering he only saw an eight (or more) man box on just 20 percent of his runs — per Next Gen Stats — that does not reflect well on the line. Barkley did rate as the NFL’s fourth-fastest ball carrier, topping 20 miles an hour on his breakaway run.He was once again successful as a receiver, catching six of eight targets for 56 yards.Odell Beckham played 59 of 62 snaps, catching 7 of 11 targets for 60 yards. As indicated by Manning’s average of 3.6 yards per completion, Beckham caught most of his passes short, and did what he could against a defense which was allowed to play downhill all game. Sterling Shepard, who also played 59 of 62 snaps was the Giants’ leading receiver, catching each of his 10 targets for 77 yards and a touchdown. The Giants spent almost all of the game in their 11-personnel set, with TE Rhett Ellison playing 54 of 62 snaps, and WR Russell Shepard playing 51 of 62 snaps. The Giants receivers were getting open, per Next Gen Stats, with four of the Giants’ top five receivers getting much more than league-average separation. Manning just wasn’t finding them down the field. After that primary personnel set, TE Scott Simonson got the most snaps at 14 of 62. The Giants clearly came in with the plan to spread the Saints out. DefenseFront SevenOnce again, true defensive linemen Damon Harrison and Dalvin Tomlinson lead the way in the snap count, getting 37 of the defense’s 70 snaps. Per Next Gen Stats Youth Kerry Wynn Jersey , Tomlinson was the Giants’ best pass rusher, and the only one to come closer than league-average on his average rush.Rookie defensive tackle B.J. Hill saw an uptick in his snap count, from 14 to 24 snaps, after an effective day against the Houston Texans.EDGE players Kareem Martin and Connor Barwin played the most snaps, between outside linebacker and defensive end. Martin played 56 of 70 snaps, while Barwin played 45 snaps, coming up with three tackles and a pass defensed. Both players were among the Giants’ top pass rushers, but both were only about league average in terms of their average distance to the quarterback.Linebackers Alec Ogletree and Ray-Ray Armstrong played the most snaps among the front seven, with Ogletree playing all of the defense’s 70 snaps, notching 12 total tackles. Meanwhile Armstrong played 57 snaps, and came up with 7 tackles. SecondaryEach member of the Giants’ starting secondary played all of the defensive snaps, with Janoris Jenkins, B.W. Webb, Landon Collins, and Curtis Riley each playing 70 snaps. The Giants’ secondary played well overall, limiting Drew Brees to just 18 of 32 for 215 yards and no touchdowns. That is impressive work for the defense Curtis Riley Jersey , considering Brees had been on a historic run to start the game, completing well over 80 percent of his passes and dissecting every defense he saw.Nickel corner Donte Deayon was the final member of the secondary to see a major share of the snaps, with 53 of 70.The Giants were largely suffocating in coverage, with four of the Saints top five receivers averaging about half a yard less separation than league average. Particularly impressive was the work of Jenkins on wide receiver Micheal Thomas. Thomas had been having an excellent season to date, and Jenkins held him to just four catches for 47 yards. He only allowed Thomas, who is quickly becoming one of the NFL’s best receivers, an average just 2.38 yards of separation — four tenths of a yard less than the average NFL receiver.Final thoughtsThe stats suggest that the Giants should have won against the Saints. Instead they lost in an ugly landslide. The Saints were showing looks which should have allowed the Giants to run the ball — yet they didn’t. The Giants’ receivers were getting wide open, yet the passing game made no effort to look down the field. The defense played far better than the lopsided 15-point loss would have suggested, and if a team holds a quarterback the caliber of Drew Brees to the day he had, they should expect to win. The problem was with the Giants’ offense and an ineffective game plan. The question going forward is whether the Giants coaching staff will open up the offense as they did against Houston, or continue to play the ineffective horizontal scheme which lost against Dallas and now New New Orleans.Giants-Patriots “Kudos & Wet Willies” review Alright, New York Giants fans. Let’s hand out our final “Kudos & Wet Willies” of the preseason following Thursday’s 17-12 loss by the Giants to the New England Patriots.Kudos to ...Donte Deayon — Two interceptions, four passes defensed, three tackles. Yeah, he earned himself a roster spot.Chris Lewis-Harris — Same with Lewis-Harris. If he wasn’t secure in making the roster before Thursday, he should be now. No splash plays Nate Solder Jersey , but he was solid all night. His coverage was good, his open-field tackling was solid. That’s what you want from a reserve cornerback.Jhurell Pressley — Signed by the Giants mostly just to help get them through the final two preseason games when injuries hit the running back position, Pressley has seized the opportunity. He had 7 carries for 40 yards (5.7 yards per carry) Thursday and caught all 3 passes thrown to him. Could he emerge with a surprising spot on the practice squad?Robert Thomas — Had a sack, a quarterback hit and 3 tackles. Thomas polished off a nice season that should see him make the 53-man roster by having a nice game.James Bettcher — Just because it was fun to see the defensive coordinator go all sorts of ballistic after New England quarterback Danny Etling ran 86 yards for a touchdown on a bootleg.Amba Etta-Tawo — After an excellent spring and solid beginning to training camp, the young wide receiver had been quiet in the preseason. Thursday, he took a short pass from Kyle Lauletta 41 yards for a touchdown. Perhaps that secured him a spot on the practice squad.Wet Willies to ...Marshall Koehn — Missed another extra point Thursday. That was his second miss of the preseason. He won’t make the team, and kicking like that won’t find much interest from the other 31 teams.Preseason replay challenges — Pat Shurmur and Bill Belichick each challenged calls during the game. Booooooooooooooooo!!! C’mon, guys. The idea was to get the game over with, not stretch it out.Helmet rule — The Giants were penalized three times, at least two on calls that looked completely ridiculous. A flummoxed Shurmur said after the game “Some of the plays now, we’re getting flags that if those aren’t part of the game, I don’t know if we have a game.”Kwillies to ...Kyle Lauletta — Thursday was a great opportunity for Lauletta to get some much-needed extended playing time. Unfortunately, he didn’t do a lot with it. While Shurmur believed his night was better than his 8-of-19, 1 touchdown, 2 interception stat line indicated there were some missed opportunities.

Linebacker Olivier Vernon recovered the fumble and returned it into Washington territory.Washinton got that short field thanks to D.J. Swearinger‘s second interception of the day. Swearinger picked off Eli Manning on a deep ball in the general vicinity of Odell Beckham and returned the ball to the Giants’ 40-yard-line. The reprieve offered by Collins and Vernon went nowhere, though, because Evan Engram let a pass go through his hands on fourth down. N.Y. The first time Washington faced the New York Giants this season
http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline.com/ryan-kerrigan-jersey , Alex Smith was the QB for the Redskins, and their victory pushed them to 5-2, alone atop the NFC East. The Giants, meanwhile, dropped to 1-7, headed nowhere fast in coach Pat Shurmur's first year and what just about everyone was figuring would be Eli Manning's last.So much has happened in the meantime. As the rivals prepare to meet again Sunday, it'll be Mark Sanchez taking the reins as the Redskins' third starting quarterback in less than a month. They've lost three consecutive games to fall to 6-6. There was also the fallout from the decision to claim Reuben Foster off waivers after the San Francisco 49ers released the linebacker following an arrest for domestic violence. The biggest challenge now for the Redskins is trying to persuade themselves not to pack it in."We still have a lot to play for. We're not out of anything right now. It's not like we're 0-12 and we're just playing for whatever. We're actually playing to try to get into the playoffs, possibly win the division. Heck, we still have a lot out in front of us," Washington coach Jay Gruden said."It might not be pretty. We might not throw for 500 yards and lead the league in offense or what have you. We might throw for 100 and rush for 100 and win the game 7-3. Who knows?" Gruden said. "I know that we have enough talent in here, where we can still do some damage and compete with anybody on our schedule. So that's my job to get our team up and ready 鈥?and then it's their job to go out and perform at the very highest level that they can possibly perform."And the Giants?Well, they're still in last place, but they've shown lately that they didn't give up under Shurmur, winning three of their past four games to get to 4-8, with rookie running back Saquon Barkley and star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. leading the way. If they beat Washington 鈥?and New York is favored because of the host's quarterback situation 鈥?the Giants would suddenly have a realistic shot at moving out of the division cellar. The biggest impediment to Washington's chances at staying close to the teams ahead of it, Dallas and Philadelphia, is an offense that saw Smith go down with a broken leg in a 23-21 loss against Houston on Nov. 18, then McCoy get a broken leg last week. Now Gruden had a short week to prepare Sanchez for his first starting assignment since the 2015 season."We know what's at stake http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline.com/chase-roullier-jersey ," said Sanchez, whose last win as a starter came in 2014. "We understand that this division is really up for grabs, so these next few games, especially the divisional games, carry a lot of weight."Here are other things to know about the game Sunday:THE SANCHIZEAgainst the Eagles, the 32-year-old Sanchez compiled a passer rating of 53.7, going 13 for 21 for only 100 yards with one interception and one fumble that he managed to recover. His career passer rating is 73.7, and he has more interceptions (87) than TD passes (86) since entering the league as a first-round draft pick of the New York Jets."It's a huge leap playing with guys you don't even know," Gruden said about Sanchez, who was signed to be McCoy's backup less than three weeks ago. "I don't even know if he knows all (of his teammates') names."SO MANY FLAGSThe Giants have been penalized 50 times for 438 yards in their last five games, averaging 10 flags for 87.6 yards. In their last game, the numbers were 12 for 107.SO MANY INJURIESThe Redskins now have 17 players on injured reserve after adding three more names this week. The banged-up offensive line was already without both starting guards and now lost another, Jonathan Cooper, to a torn biceps. Another guard, Tony Bergstrom, is also hurt, as is starting center Chase Roullier.REPLACING LANDONReplacing injured safety Landon Collins is going to be tough for New York. He was the team's leading tackler in each of his first three seasons and was leading the team this year with 96. Veteran Michael Thomas and rookie Sean Chandler probably will split time at the strong safety spot. The problem for the Giants is Collins is excellent in run support and covering tight ends.INDEFENSIBLEDuring Washington's solid start to the season, the defense was seen as a strength. Not so much these days: Washington is allowing 27.3 points per game over the past three. And its opponents have gained 422.4 yards per game over the past five.AP Sports Writer Tom Canavan contributed to this report. Jordan Reed has two fewer bones and a whole lot of peace of mind.Toe soreness in offseason workouts more than a year ago became lingering pain that threw off everything for the Washington Redskins tight end. Overcompensation led to a hamstring injury that kept Reed off the field Authentic Alex Smith Jersey , and he never felt like himself even when he was able to play.So Reed went under the knife twice to have a sesamoid bone in each big toe removed. Reed now feels "100 times better" and hopes his toe injuries are a thing of the past so he can get back to his form of 2015, when he had 87 catches for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns."It's definitely a relief," Reed said Friday. "Just having that nagging pain for two years was awful and now it's gone, so it's just a lot better."Reed said toe fractures gave him little choice but to have the surgeries, one on his left foot in December and the other on the right in February. They've so far worked out far better than his decision to get a stem-cell injection in the summer of 2017 that aggravated his toe problem so much he couldn't walk. That self-described "poor decision" completely derailed Reed's season, limiting him to 27 catches in six games. He tried orthotics in his shoes to ease the pain, but nothing worked, leading to an operation that's more common for dancers and exceedingly rare for the general public."That's usually kind of like the last stop on the train," said Mark Drakos, a foot and ankle surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. "They're very little bones. They're about the size of like a Peanut M&M, so they're very, very small. Most bones, if they break or they don't heal, we'll go in and fix them with plates and screws of if you break your ankle, we put it back together. These are so small that a lot of times we just take it out because it's quicker. It's a quicker recovery."Reed is well past the usual eight-to-12-week recovery period and has looked sharp in individual and team drills early in camp. Just having him on the field again is a plus for the Redskins, who need the 28-year-old to create matchup problems for opposing defenses."He is a unique guy at the tight end position that can do so many things: route-running with the ball in his hands after the catch," new quarterback Alex Smith said. "He is oftentimes the guy that it doesn't really matter who's lined up against him — linebacker, safety Authentic D.J. Swearinger Jersey , corner. He is a guy that I think has the skill set to win against all these positions."Coach Jay Gruden, who early in camp a year ago didn't think Reed's toe injury would be a long-term concern, is hopeful now because, as he put it, "I have to be.""I think he's one of the top tight ends in the National Football League when healthy," Gruden said. "Last year, he tried to fight through a couple of those injuries in the offseason. He got them fixed, so hopefully we'll put an end to all those foot and toe injury things and ankle. Jordan, he feels great right now, very optimistic about the way his body feels and now it's our job to make sure we just progress him along at a good rate."Gruden hopes to get Reed into a preseason game or two and have him 100 percent for the season opener against Arizona. On a team with a handful of players working back from injuries, Reed is taking a conservative approach as he balances restraint with the excitement of what he could do when finally healthy again."Still working through that with the coaches and taking it slow," he said. "I'm just getting my body built back up. ... I'm confident moving forward."NOTES: Second-year LB Ryan Anderson left practice with back spasms and he's considered day-to-day. A team spokesman said RB Rob Kelley's departure was heat-related. ... LB Zach Brown was a limited participant in team drills a day after straining the quadriceps muscle in his left thigh. ... The team's afternoon walkthrough was cut short by lightning. Unlike their regular practice facility in Ashburn, Virginia, outside Washington, the Redskins do not have an indoor bubble at their Richmond site. Custom Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys

The winning formula for the Redskins offense has always
been there From the outside looking in Womens Jamison Crowder Jersey , the Washington Redskins had nearly a flawless performance against the Arizona Cardinals to kick off their 2018 campaign. Their performance surprised most people given the uncertainty of how Washington would look coming out of the gate. It is only one week for Washington of course, but the positives are what make the foreseeable future favorable in the standings, and for the confidence of the team heading into the middle of the season. The elder statesmen of the offense Alex Smith (34 years old) and Adrian Peterson (33 years old), with the help of Chris Thompson, led the unit to a dominant performance against the Cardinals. The unit, for the most part, had very few errors. They dominated the time of possession, rushing for over 180 yards that helped put the Arizona Cardinals to bed before the fourth quarter even began. The Redskins offensive formula was simple, protect the football and win the individual match-ups in the ground game. For a majority of the day, the Redskins executed that formula Youth Montae Nicholson Jersey , allowing a future Hall of Famer in Adrian Peterson to take over the game on the ground and take pressure off of Alex Smith on dropbacks. Smith is very protective of the football, and that potentially allows the Redskins to have lengthy drives. Even if the drives do not result in points, it lowers the chances of giving the opposing offense shortened fields to work with. That is something that obviously pays off in the long run of games. The issues in years past for Washington was that the offense often got out of sync pretty quickly for many reasons, and it hurt the Redskins ability to dictate the flow of the game. There are two experienced, polished, and proven veterans in the backfield now for Washington, which is what the Redskins have never had during Gruden’s tenure. Peterson is capable of creating plays that the Redskins backs were not able to do in years past, which gives Gruden the confidence to keep going back to the ground game. Peterson allows Gruden to trust in the ground attack on a day that even if it may not be working for the majority of a game, Adrian is capable of changing that. In his first game, he showed just how capable he was of breaking runs Youth Zach Brown Jersey , as Peterson got close numerous times. With the versatility that Chris Thomspon provides at the running back position, the match-up problem Gruden has in his possession creates an abundance of issues for defenses in weeks to come. Now, it is only one game for Washington, but the formula for success on the offensive side of the football is there. It has always been there, with the quality veteran pieces in place at both quarterback and running back; can the consistency be there throughout the season? I believe it can.We have a fullback! Redskins sign J.P. Holtz to the practice squad Many people were disappointed, but not surprised that the Redskins did not keep a fullback on the 53-man roster this year. Washington started camp with Elijah Wellman on the roster, but he was waived/injured and the team moved onto TE J.P. Holtz to play FB.Holtz did a solid job blocking, and earned some hype from new starting RB Adrian Peterson(and a Mason-Brennan Preseason Hype! Award nomination).Holtz also got some praise from Head Coach Jay Gruden, who talked about the numbers game at RB, ILB Authentic Josh Doctson Jersey , and OL when considering keeping a 4th TE to play FB. He didn't make the cut and the Redskins kept 5 RBs, 5 ILBs, and 9 OL. One of those RBs, Byron Marshall, is reportedly a candidate for IR with a sprained ACL/MCL.The Redskins dumped DL Cashaud Lyons yesterday after only one day on the team. It was reported last night by Craig Hoffman that a familiar name would be brought in, and we now know that J.P. Holtz is back with the team. Holtz joins Matt Flanagan as a TE on the practice squad. Will Holtz ever be brought up to the main roster, or will the Redskins continue to use other players/positions for the role? Custom Miami Dolphins Jerseys

The Pittsburgh Steelers are back-to-back winners for the
first time in this 2018 season after a solid performance vs. the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium in Week 6. With the team now able to relax on their bye-week in Week 7 Authentic James Conner Jersey , they will hope to improve on their 3-2-1 record by beating the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens in Weeks 8 and 9. Something I did last season and I’m going to start again is the Black-and-gold Links article. This is an article where I take stories from quality news sources across the Internet and add them here for your viewing pleasure. I won’t be posting the entire articles, but I’ll link each story and author so that you can read the full article. Today we talk about how we all might have been spoiled with the early success of JuJu Smith-Schuster. When the Steelers selected James Washington in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, most expected a similar production from the former Oklahoma State product, but it just hasn’t happened yet. So, what gives?Let’s get to the news:James Washington fighting through slow start with SteelersBy: Joe Rutter, Pittsburgh Tribune-ReviewIn his first professional game, he wasn’t targeted for a pass. In his second, he had three catches for 16 yards. In his third, he caught two passes.JuJu Smith-Schuster’s production at the outset of his rookie season didn’t generate banner headlines or foreshadow an emerging star wide receiver. He was like most first-year pass-catchers, struggling to find his footing in the NFL.The Pittsburgh Steelers weren’t alarmed by Smith-Schuster’s lack of productivity in the first half of the 2017 season, which is why they aren’t concerned about James Washington’s slow start this season.Through six games, Washington’s totals are five receptions on 14 targets for 49 yards and one touchdown.“It’s a process for him,” said Darryl Drake, the long-time wide receivers coach who is in his first year with the Steelers. “We have to push him along faster and get him more involved. When the opportunities come for him, he has to deliver.”Washington hasn’t delivered in each of the past two games. He didn’t have a catch and was on the field for just 16 snaps Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals as the Steelers utilized two and sometimes three tight ends in formations. The week before, against Atlanta, Washington had a drop and then was called for pass interference on a deep pass.“It just takes time,” Washington said. “It’s not going to happen overnight. You’ve got to keep coming to practice and try to get better and better and take coaching. It’s hard at times, but you have to be available.”Smith-Schuster had similar issues last season although they weren’t as pronounced. He had 15 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns after his sixth game. His breakthrough came in Week 8 when he caught seven passes for 193 yards, including a 97-yard touchdown Youth JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey , against Detroit.Smith-Schuster had two more 100-yard games and finished with 58 catches for 917 yards and seven scores.Drake thinks it’s only a matter of time before Washington gets beyond the growing pains that rookie receivers typically endure.“In the pro game, we ask them to do so much,” he said. “They have to understand the coverages, they have to understand what the safeties are doing, they have to understand the concepts of what we are asking them to do and they have to be able to make a decision in less than a second.“The thing I try to get them to do is not think – react. The game is a reaction game, and you have to react the right way. You have to make sure you are going right instead of left.”Tim Benz: Steelers on ‘wasteful’ Le’Veon Bell speculationBy: Tim Benz, Pittsburgh Tribune-ReviewCameron Heyward had some advice for the Steelers media members who might be working over the bye weekend. Some of us might try to find Le’Veon Bell in an attempt to figure when — or if — the running back is going to report to the team.”If y’all have to put out an Amber Alert or a milk carton, do what you gotta do,” joked Heyward.James Conner’s emergence as a reliable lead running back the past few weeks has mitigated the need to go that far. During the previous two games — wins against Atlanta and Cincinnati — the second-year product from Pitt has totaled 314 yards from scrimmage. Those results have put continued games of “Where’s Waldo” with Bell on the back burner. So if offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner ever was worried about keeping a packet of plays ready for whenever Bell ends his absence, the coach doesn’t appear to be concerned now.”I just think it would be wasteful time management to think about it,” Fichtner said Wednesday. “When it happens, it happens. We move on from there.”But like many Steelers fans, Fichtner seems torn over the reality with Bell. On the one hand, Fichtner is referring to preparation surrounding a potential Bell return as “wasteful.” On the other, the coach seemed to yearn for when Bell’s talents are back on the field.Fichtner was asked about the prospect of having two running backs — i.e., Conner and Bell — capable of running the ball and catching it with great effectiveness on the field together.”I’ll take four if we can have them,” Fichtner deadpanned. “We want all the good players we can get.”Le’Veon Bell saga: Post-bye plans, payouts, locker room pranksBy: Jeremy Fowler, ESPNLe’Veon Bell is not in the building. The Pittsburgh Steelers have one practice left before breaking for the bye. Bell can show up at any time http://www.steelersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-joe-haden-jersey , but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the team doesn’t expect that to be this week. Now is a good time to dissect what’s next for Bell and the Steelers in this weekly saga.Where does this story go next?Bell’s plan was to utilize the two-week period between the bye and the Browns game in Week 8 to get back into the football swing with extra practice time. The Steelers open Week 8 with what they call a “bonus Monday” practice, which Bell can utilize. If Bell doesn’t show by next week, it’s possible his plans have changed. This is a fluid situation featuring a team actively trying to trade an unsigned player who hasn’t kept in contact with it. More fireworks are expected. How do the Steelers’ expectations for Bell’s reporting correlate with Bell’s plans privately? That’s a key factor here. Bell hasn’t talked to the team in months, and that’s strategic. Not informing the club of when he’ll show is exercising his leverage as an unsigned player. And unless there’s a franchise-tag stipulation that Bell must notify the team in writing of his return, Bell can simply show up when he wants. How might this play out?Last season, Bell showed up on a Friday to take his physical and signed his tender the following Monday. Following the same plan for this week and next is not out of the question but would be a bit clunky. The building will be empty save a few trainers or staff members.Bell is from Columbus, Ohio, so when he leaves Miami, where he’s been training, he’ll likely return home for a day or two, then transition to Pittsburgh for the fall and winter months. How did the bye-week dynamic play into this?Over the weekend, the NFL Network reported the Steelers aren’t obligated to pay Bell his $855,000 salary for the bye week because there’s no game to be played. I checked on this and can confirm it. I don’t know if Bell stayed away because of that, but it could be a factor.A few weeks ago, Bell used his official Instagram account to “like” a SportsCenter post about a timeline for Bell’s return. So how does the immediate payout work upon his return?Well, the two-week roster exemption looms large here. The Steelers can withhold pay for those two weeks if they see fit -- or see unfit, if Bell is not in game shape. The best guess here is Bell will report game-ready. Otherwise, why show up at all? Once Bell is in the building, the Steelers can make that call.Steelers’ Week 3 win over Buccaneers stems the tide of early season turbulence If you’re anything like me, I’ll bet you’re glad you don’t have to talk yourself into believing the Steelers could still be true contenders with a record of 0-2-1 to start the 2018 campaign. And that’s what we would have had to do Chris Boswell Jersey , you know. Talk ourselves into thinking the low percentage of teams that made the playoffs after going winless through the first three weeks didn’t pertain to the squad we cheered for. Thankfully, the Steelers rescued us from that illogical bit of fan reasoning with a 30-27 victory over the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t always sound. But it gave the Steelers (and their fans) a chance to breathe, to sort of hit the reset button. After 2017, a season in which the Steelers seemed to be in the news every single week for one controversy or another, it didn’t seem like Team Turmoil could possibly be more chaotic in 2018. Yet, the first two weeks felt like 20, as Pittsburgh got off to an 0-1-1 start and didn’t look very pretty during the process. The ugliness wasn’t contained to the field either. But it’s okay...for now. The win over Tampa Bay didn’t cure all that ailed the Steelers going into Monday night. No, it just leveled off the airline after a rough takeoff and some scary turbulence. The Steelers still have much work to do, and how they go about their business during the next few weeks will likely determine the ultimate course of their season. However, this is nothing new in the NFL, especially with the way free-agency alters every team’s roster during the offseason—even the really talented ones. Take a look at the Steelers, for instance, a team that went 13-3 in 2017. They essentially have two new starting safeties, along with a rookie safety who they’ve quickly thrown into the mix and are expecting big things from. They also have a new inside linebacker and two outside linebackers that have switched sides. And that’s just the defense. Pittsburgh has a new starting running back to start the season in James Conner, something nobody — including the front-office and coaching staff — could have predicted as recently as a month ago. The Steelers also have a new-look receiving corps that includes a rookie and a return-specialist who they traded for right before the start of the season.Oh yes, and there’s the new offensive coordinator. With the way all teams — not just the Steelers — prepare for the regular season by protecting their essential players during the preseason, it’s no wonder ugliness is so often a part of September football. No, not all teams are looking ugly right now. The Chiefs are a great example, as they’ve started out 3-0 and couldn’t look more dominant. The other day, as Kansas City’s first half score of 35-7 over the 49ers flashed on my television screen Authentic Xavier Grimble Jersey , I thought, “Man, the Steelers are not even in the Chiefs’ universe, let alone league.” But then I caught myself and realized there are teams like the Chiefs each and every September. In fact, the Chiefs were that team last year, as they jumped out to a 5-0 start and beat up on the Super Bowl champion Patriots in the process. Kansas City was the new team-to-beat in the AFC. Kansas City was going to get over the hump and get to the Super Bowl. By the playoffs, Kansas City was the fourth seed and lost to the Titans at home in the first round. Coaches like to tell you about how they don’t worry about what other teams are doing. “We can’t worry about what takes place in other stadiums,” Mike Tomlin is fond of saying. While that’s not always true, it’s certainly true at this time of year. It doesn’t matter who looks dominant now. What matters is who’s peaking in December and January, something the Steelers have been very good at in recent years. After all the chaos, after all those penalties, after all those turnovers given up by the offense and big plays given up by the defense, the Steelers are 1-1-1.That record looks ridiculous, but it’s only a half a game worse than Pittsburgh’s record last year at this time. The Steelers don’t look like Super Bowl contenders right now, but that doesn’t mean they’re not.Let’s see how they chart their course from here. Custom Indianapolis Colts Jerseys

There’s a saying in the legal community that the phrase “frivolous lawsuit”
means “any lawsuit filed against me.” For now Customized Pittsburgh Steelers Jerseys , Steelers receiver Antonio Brown seems to be taking that approach to a pair of lawsuits filed against him arising from an April incident at a $10 million apartment he rented in Florida.“It has now been made public that two lawsuits containing false claims have been filed against me,” Brown said in a statement provided to PFT and other media outlets. “The facts will soon come out that prove my innocence. My focus will remain on football and I will not let the cases serve as a distraction.”One of the lawsuits was filed by the landlord, claiming that Brown caused $15,000 in damage to the apartment during an alleged fit of rage sparked by the theft of a gun and $80,000 in cash. The other lawsuit arises from the claim that Brown threw furniture and other items from a 14th-floor balcony, nearly hitting a toddler and his grandfather below.Brown didn’t elaborate on why he believes the claims are false www.authenticspittsburghsteelers.com , and no facts have been provided yet to prove his innocence. As the lawsuits proceed, evidence will be developed through the pre-trial discovery process. Barring settlement, a trial eventually will happen.Brown was not arrested or charged as a result of the incident. However, he could possibly face NFL scrutiny under the Personal Conduct Policy. The window closed on the Steelers signing running back Le'Veon Bell to a long-term deal nearly three months ago. Before it closed, the Steelers were prepared to commit paying $47 million over three years to Bell, a league source tells PFT.And as to the notion that only $10 million would have been fully guaranteed Pittsburgh Steelers T-Shirt , at a time when the 2018 franchise tender for Bell is $14.54 million, the package included a $10 million roster bonus due not long after signing, making the practical guarantee $20 million. The Steelers would have avoided that payment only by cutting Bell within days after giving him $10 million to sign. The cash flow beyond the initial $20 million still isn’t known, and neither is the amount that would have been guaranteed for injury only. Still, if Bell shows up for Week Seven and if he gets the full amount of his remaining franchise tender for 2018 (roughly $9 million), he’ll need to get $38 million over the first two years of a contract signed on the open market Pittsburgh Steelers Hats , in order to get to where he would have been — assuming that the Steelers would have kept him for three full years under the terms of the long-term deal. The duration and structure of the contract beyond 2020 also would be a factor. If Bell had collected $47 million over the first three years, what would he have gotten in 2021 and 2022, if it were a five-term package? It’s possible the Steelers wanted team-friendly terms in the outer years of the deal.Regardless, Bell rejected the offer. And his goal continues to be to get to the open market healthy enough to cash in. He’ll need to cash in significantly, in order to get to where he’d been, if he’d accepted the team’s final offer.Maybe he will. Maybe there’s a team out there that will pay him something more than anyone imagines. We’ll find out the answer come March 2019 Pittsburgh Steelers Hoodie , assuming he gets his long-awaited chance to see what’s out there. Custom Indianapolis Colts Jerseys

Kirk Cousins dropped back to pass and found Kyle Rudolph for a short gain, forcing the Vikings to punt for the first time on the day. Matt Wile came in to boot the ball away, and with a decent bounce the Eagles took over from their own 33-yard line.Carson Wentz immediately went to work, as he looked deep for Shelton Gibson for a huge 48-yard gain, and they were all the way down to the Minnesota 19-yard line. Fortunately, the Eagles’ offense stalled out thanks to a dropped pass by Wendell Smallwood, and the Eagles had to settle for a 30-yard field goal by Jake Elliott to tie the game at 3-3.The kickoff from Elliott went through the end zone for a touchback, giving the Vikings the ball at their own 25. Cousins started things with a short pass to C.J. Ham, and a short pass to Stefon Diggs moved the sticks after Diggs made a ridiculous number of moves.Diggs then took an end-around and rambled for 20 yards into Philadelphia territory at the 39. Latavius Murray then broke out his best run of the year White Danielle Hunter Jersey , going for 12 yards to the 27. After a one-yard loss and a false start on Diggs, the Vikings were facing a 2nd-and-16. A short pass to Roc Thomas got the Vikings back to the original line of scrimmage, and Cousins’ pass for Adam Thielen on third down fell incomplete.Minnesota brought Dan Bailey out for his third field goal attempt of the game, this one a 45-yard attempt. Then, the greatest thing ever happened.Stephen Weatherly came through and hit Wentz, causing the ball to flutter into the air, and it landed in the hands of Linval Joseph! Linval then proceeded to rumble. . .and not stumble. . .and go ALL THE WAY TO THE END ZONE for a 63-yard touchdown! Bailey added the extra point White Brett Jones Jersey , and suddenly the Vikings were up by a score of 10-3.Man, fat guy touchdowns are the best. The Eagles’ started out on their own 26-yard line on the ensuing drive, and Wentz scrambled for eight yards to start the drive. After a pair of false start penalties against the Eagles, Wentz’s pass for Alshon Jeffery fell incomplete and the Eagles were forced to punt. Cameron Johnston booted the ball away, and Brandon Zylstra fielded a short punt and took it to the Minnesota 44-yard line.Cousins found Kyle Rudolph to put the Vikings into Eagles territory at the two-minute warning. The Vikings moved the sticks on a couple of passes to Thielen, and then Thielen caught a pass to move the ball inside the Eagles’ 30. After a questionable. . .very questionable. . .roughing the passer call on Michael Bennett, the Vikings had the ball at the Philadelphia 12-yard line. Cousins found Rudolph down to the 3-yard line, and then Cousins lofted a beautiful pass to Adam Thielen in the back left corner of the end zone for a three-yard touchdown! Alex Smith doesn't believe in assigned seats. As he tried to get to know his new Washington Redskins teammates Authentic Danielle Hunter Jersey , Smith sat in a different seat for each meeting.Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula knew that from his time with Smith in San Francisco, and running back Chris Thompson beamed, "That's a trait from your quarterback that you like to see."It's a concerted effort by Smith to fit in with the guys, something he did quickly after taking over as the Redskins' franchise quarterback.Be it his personality, his depth of NFL experience or the long-term contract that previous starter Kirk Cousins never had in Washington, Smith has already assumed the place of unquestioned leader and made players sense an entirely different vibe around the team."(It's about) putting yourself out there, being real and nothing fake, nothing phony but getting to know the guys, letting your guard down," Smith said. "I'm more conscious of it as I've gotten older about that, about the responsibility as a teammate, being a good teammate."No one around the Redskins is calling Cousins a bad teammate, and team brass is reluctant to compare him and Smith on or off the field. But ever since Smith took the field in practice in burgundy and gold, he has been the subject of glowing praise about his ability to lead."He's always been a leader," left tackle Trent Williams said. "You could tell he's comfortable in that role. He's what we needed."A series of one-year contracts made Cousins unwilling or unable to fully fill that void. After signing a guaranteed $84 million, three-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings, Cousins felt he finally had a "license to lead" that was never there with the Redskins, who took him in the same draft as Robert Griffin III, made him compete for the starting job and never agreed to a long-term contract.Washington not only acquired Smith from Kansas City but signed him to a $94 million, four-year extension with $71 million guaranteed and put the pressure on him to get back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season. That's as much as license to lead as anything http://www.vikingsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-eric-kendricks-jersey , but the 34-year-old brushed off the trappings of that kind of security."All you're guaranteed is a year at a time here and even game by game," Smith said. "I appreciate so much the opportunity I have today and right in front of me and I'm not really thinking past that. Contract, all this and that, I'm not feeling any kind of comfort in that. No. I've got a huge sense of urgency to go out there and to go right now, to go today. I'm not waiting on anything. So it doesn't change my approach at all."It's that approach that quickly won Smith the respect of teammates, who spent the opening days of training camp talking about things feeling "different" this year. This was a team with Jay Gruden entering his fifth season as head coach with almost the same core of players except at the most important position."We got a lot of leaders on this team, especially with your quarterback," safety D.J. Swearinger said. "When you get a guy like Alex Smith in here, a lot changes. ... He's changed the leadership of how the offense approaches (the game). When they break the huddle, it's a different bounce. It's a different way he comes on the line and commands the offense."That's what senior vice president of player personnel and retired QB Doug Williams thought the Redskins were getting in Smith, who is coming off a season in which he set career highs with 4,042 yards passing and 26 touchdowns. Cousins threw for 4,000 yards the past three seasons, but Washington wanted a long-term answer and found it in Smith."What we've seen since he's been here is everything that we thought, that Jim (Tomsula) was talking about, from a leadership standpoint," Williams said."When he walked in the building, you could feel Alex Smith taking control of the locker room and being part of what we were looking for from a stability standpoint."The practice field has been the setting for Redskins players getting an up-close look at Smith. Cornerback Josh Norman bemoaned not being able to get enough work in because Smith was too accurate and wouldn't make mistakes, and Swearinger called him the kind of player defenders hate to face.Gruden, a former QB himself and an offensive guru Youth Harrison Smith Jersey , sees Smith as someone who can run his playbook and is also tailoring some things to him to maximize his mobility and decision-making prowess."Really what CAN'T he do?" Gruden said. "We're just trying to come up with a plan of attack that utilizes his skillset and make him as comfortable as possible."Smith looks and feels comfortable off the field, too. In addition to players admiring how the playbook has grown because of his addition, Thompson and said Smith "seemed to just fit in with us right away."Gruden said Smith "doesn't walk in here like he's king. He's walking in here like he's one of the guys." As one of the fittest players on the team, Smith sets a work ethic example, and his personality is such that Gruden thinks he could play a pickup basketball game with anyone and fit in.Perhaps that's why his transition to Washington has been so seamless that Williams said it feels as if Smith has been around a long time. The Redskins hope he actually is."He has the charisma, he has the character, he has everything that you want in a quarterback," Williams said. "And that's what they're supposed to be: a face of the franchise, and I can tell you this: Alex Smith fits that mold as the face of a franchise."Follow Stephen Whyno on Twitter at ://SWhyno . Hi kids, how are we feeling this afternoon? A three game win streak that puts the Vikings alone in first place in the NFC North should have you feeling pretty good about the local team and life in general, I would think. But yeah, it’s also Monday, so I get it if things kind of blow today.I have to admit I was a bit worried last week about the Jets game, and I talked about it in this piece right here. A loss against the Jets would have been pretty bad, for any number of reasons. Turns out I was right in thinking how brutal a loss to the Jets would have been for the VIkings and their playoff chances. But, they won. It might have been ugly for awhile, but they got it done. And in so doing, their playoff chances and playoff seeding increased substantially. If you fine folks here at DN have read any of my musings on a regular basis, you know I’m not a number cruncher type of writer, for the most part. I’ll look at trends and use them to form my ridiculously obtuse opinions http://www.vikingsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-everson-griffen-jersey , but using a lot of stats in my writing isn’t something I’m particularly good at. However, one site I’ve really started to enjoy is the playoff predictor from 538, a site more known for political polls and predictions as opposed to sports. But they’ve been doing a playoff predictor for the NFL for awhile now, and I really enjoyed following it last season as the Vikings chased Philly and New Orleans for homefield advantage and a first round bye. If you’re not familiar with the site, they take the results of the games each week, the remaining schedule, and using math and formulas that I don’t understand they come up with weekly playoff percentages for each team, to include the chances of winning the division and getting a first round bye. I didn’t look at it the first month or so of the season, but I think I’m going to make this a weekly post, now that we’re almost halfway through 2018.Anyway, last week, the Vikings had a 57% chance to make the playoffs, but only a 43% chance to win the division, and a miniscule shot at a first round bye. If I remember correctly, the Bears were ahead of the Vikings in all those categories, and both the Packers and the Lions were in the 30-40 percentile range to make the playoffs. After yesterday’s games, let’s take a look at where things now stand in the NFC North in terms of making it to ‘The Dance’ (playoff percentages taken from 538):That’s a pretty dramatic one week jump for the Vikings and drop off for the Bears, the Packers lost a lot of ground even though they had a bye, and Detroit changed very little. But how bad would it have been if the Vikings had lost? Well, I also found a site called Playoff Predictors Stefon Diggs Jersey , and I think I could waste hours going over all the different possible what if scenarios. (Warning: this site is a ginormous time killer so it’s not my fault if the rest of your work day is unproductive). Had Minnesota lost to the Jets yesterday and fallen to 3-3-1, they would have gone from the number four seed in the NFC playoffs to ninth. So yeah, that was a big game. Had both the Vikes and Bears won, the Bears would currently be the fourth seed, and the Vikings sixth. That loss to the Patriots really hurt the Bears, though, as they dropped from division leader hosting a first round playoff game to the 10th seed, with Green Bay still the sixth seed...even though 538 predicts the Packers have the lowest chance to make the playoffs, muahahahaha.Detroit is currently the ninth seed, sitting at 3-3 right behind two other .500 teams in Seattle and Tampa Bay. Had the Lions lost to Miami, they would have tumbled to 2-4, the 13th seed in the conference, and in my opinion almost no shot at the post season. They have yet to be seeded in a hypothetical ‘if the playoffs started today’ scenario, but have climbed out of an early 0-2 start to get back to .500. You’ve probably seen the stat that says teams that start out 0-2 have an 11% chance to make the playoffs, and what a difference a 1-1 start would have been for Detroit.Let’s say they won their second game of the year against San Francisco, and every other result in the NFL so far this year remains the same. At 4-2, Detroit would be in first place in the NFC North and the number four seed. Minnesota would be the sixth seed, and Green Bay would be out of the playoffs. Starting 0-2 really is a tough hurdle to overcome, and puts teams behind the power curve early.Speaking of Green Bay...let’s go back to that week two tie the Vikings and Packers had. All other things being equal, if the Packers win that game Authentic Kyle Rudolph Jersey , they’re 4-2 and the number four seed currently, with the Vikings the number six seed. If the Vikes win that game, they are the number three seed in the NFC and the only NFC North playoff team, as Detroit, Green Bay, and Chicago fall to the number eight, nine, and 10 seeds, respectively.I know there’s still over half the season to play, and a ton of things can and will happen. The Vikings have only played one divisional game, and how they do in those five remaining games will largely determine whether or not they go to the playoffs. Lose most or all of those games and no matter where the Vikings sit today, they won’t be going anywhere come January.Still, I always enjoy these ‘if the playoffs started today’ kind of things, because I think it really shows just how crucial each game in the NFL is on a week to week basis.
