NEW YORK -- Brandon McCarthy pitched a four-hitter and the New York Yankees avoided a three-game sweep, beating the Houston Astros 3-0 Thursday. New York won for just the third time in 10 games. Chase Headley hit an early two-run double and the Yankees backed McCarthy with flawless fielding. The Yankees fans also made fine plays -- sitting in the first row behind the Houston dugout, comedian Chris Rock wound up with a foul ball off the bat of Astros rookie Jon Singleton, and he gave the souvenir to a young boy as the crowd cheered. McCarthy (5-2) outpitched Dallas Keuchel (10-9) as they both threw complete games without a walk. The Yankees had been shut out in McCarthys previous two starts. McCarthy struck out eight in his fourth career shutout and first this season. He was 3-10 with Arizona before being traded to the Yankees in July. Keuchel gave up seven hits and struck out five. The Astros had won three in a row overall. They were trying to become the first team to come into Yankee Stadium at least 20 games under .500 and sweep a series of three games or more since Milwaukee did it to close the 1972 season, STATS said. The Yankees took a 3-0 lead in the second when a double by Martin Prado set up Headleys two-run double. Prado and Headley were the only two Yankees starters to previously hit against Keuchel. Ichiro Suzuki added a sacrifice fly later in the inning. Dexter Fowler hit a broken-bat double in the Houston fourth -- the barrel reached the infield dirt, the ball two-hopped off the right-field wall -- that put runners at second and third. Marc Krauss followed with a hard grounder off McCarthys leg and, after taking a moment to locate the ball on the grass, the lanky pitcher zipped a throw to first that ended the threat. McCarthy escaped another second-and-third jam in the seventh when Singleton struck out -- right after hitting a foul pop to the third-base side that Rock recovered -- and retiring Carlos Corporan on a flyball. Kirk Cousins Vikings Jersey . Vargas (8-3) allowed four singles and two walks while striking out five, allowing only two runners from a diluted Twins lineup to reach second base. Mike Moustakas and Jarrod Dyson hit RBI singles in the second inning against Kevin Correia (4-10), and that was all Vargas needed. Mike Hughes Vikings Jersey . -- Deshorn Brown scored twice, the first coming 13 seconds into the game, and the Colorado Rapids beat the undermanned Seattle Sounders 5-1 Saturday night. http://www.vikingsnflfansclub.net/Black-Friday-Jalyn-Holmes-Jersey/. During halftime, Love told The Associated Press he would receive treatment Saturday night and hoped to play Monday night against Houston. "I knew that my quad was bothering me pretty bad so I went out there and tried to move around a little bit and it just wasnt quite right," Love said. Randy Moss Vikings Jersey .com) - Rick Nash scored twice and Derek Stepan chipped in a goal with one assist as the New York Rangers claimed a 5-2 decision over Calgary at the Saddledome. The 25-year McGinn had 19 goals and 19 assists in 79 games last season in helping the Avalanche tie a franchise record with 52 wins.RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes continued their solid play on their homestand by handing the Colorado Avalanche their first road loss of the season. Jordan Staal and Patrick Dwyer each had a goal and an assist, lifting the Hurricanes to a 2-1 victory over the Avalanche on Tuesday. It was Colorados first loss in seven road games this season, and Carolinas fourth straight win over the Avalanche in Raleigh. "We have a lot of respect for a team thats gotten out to the start Colorado has," Carolina coach Kirk Muller said. "Theyve played good hockey and we know weve been playing good hockey for the past few games. It was going to take everyone tonight to play a complete game in order to beat that club, and I thought everyone was up to the task." Carolina has points in four straight games (3-0-1), all at home, since snapping a five-game losing streak. Carolina goalie Justin Peters stopped 33 shots, while Colorados Semyon Varlamov stopped 26. Paul Stastny scored his seventh goal of the season for Colorado, which had won the teams other meeting this season 4-2 on Oct. 25 in Denver. "I have to give it to (the Hurricanes)," Colorado coach Patrick Roy said. "They played really well at the start of the game. I would say that the second half of the game was ours. We just didnt execute around the net, and I thought that was the only thing that was missing because we had a lot of chances." All seven of Carolinas victories this season have been by one goal. "The D did an awesome job helping me out tonight," Peters said. "(Colorado) was coming fast and hard. We talked about before the game how we wanted to protect the house and we did that. This just shows how well we can play wheen we stick to the process and do things the right way.dddddddddddd." Nathan Gerbe had two assists for Carolina. Eric Staal played in his 708th game for the Hurricanes, tying Kevin Dineen for third on the clubs all-time list. The Hurricanes led 1-0 after a penalty-free first period in which they outshot the Avalanche 11-5. Carolina got on the board first at 12:47 of the first, as Staal followed a Gerbe shot by backhanding the puck past Varlamov for his third goal of the season. Colorado outshot the Hurricanes 19-12 in the second. The Hurricanes made it 2-0 on a rush 26 seconds into the second, as from the left boards Gerbe passed to Dwyer for an easy glove-side goal with Staal on the secondary assist. "In the last few games weve been building on those little details," Jordan Staal said. "Weve been talking in the room a lot more and getting the guys aware of what we need to do to. Its been the short shifts, the strong plays at the blue line and all those little things thats keeping the other teams away from big opportunities and wearing them down." Stastny made it 2-1 on the games first power play at 14:34, picking up the loose puck behind Peters in the crease and following Nathan MacKinnons shot. Carolina right wing Radek Dvorak left the game early in the third with a lower-body injury and did not return. NOTES: Carolina will complete its five-game homestand Thursday night against the Anaheim Ducks. ... Colorado will play at St. Louis on Thursday night. ... Hurricanes D Tim Gleason (upper body) missed his fifth straight game and RW Kevin Westgarth (upper body) his fourth. ... Avalanche LW Alex Tanguay (knee) missed his fourth straight and D Ryan Wilson (back) his third.
